Today we’re introducing Gemini 4 Carbon — our newest frontier model from @GoogleDeepMind. Carbon is our strongest model with state-of-the-art cybersecurity and long horizon capabilities. Built for sustained agentic workflows, it delivers improved performance across domains — with greater alignment, transparency, and follow-through to respond to high-pressure tasks. We’re rolling it out starting this week to cyber defenders through our Fairwind Program, with expanded access as soon as possible.

Credits where credits is due: kudos to @OpenAI in the context of the new scientific releases, for putting the scientists that worked in a given field for a long time at the center of the process of understanding and announcing the new discoveries.

We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

Turn of your Tailscale SSH, people 🫠 tailworm.com
‼️ Researcher Erica Windisch skipped coordinated vulnerability disclosure and published 11 unpatched Tailscale flaws. In her lab, Tailscale SSH race conditions let one hacked device get root on other servers and add a rogue node.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Tailscale SSH flaws detailed require a compromised but approved device on the tailnet that has been granted SSH access by policy. Tailscale has reviewed the report and stated they do not recommend disabling Tailscale SSH for everyone while they prepare patches. tailworm.com reddit.com/r/Tailscale/co…

How on earth did this happen: The Indian certificate authority (CA) eMudhra had one job (well, two): 1. Create secure, 384-bit private keys 2. Store these securely and do not leak them Well, eMudhra chose private keys between 1 and 256 (the numbers!!) and called it a day. WTF
I don't really understand why this would happen. It seems higher-effort than standard key generation.

DeepSeek infer is the cloud version of DwarfStar, conceptually. Vertical inference engine for one model and specific hardware. Good move. And well, a lesson to the ones that criticized this approach as well.

DwarfStar GGUF for DeepSeek v4.1 Flash new checkpoint is now available. It is an improvement even only for the better token efficiency. Upgrading is a must.

So I tested the big fat cat: Mistral Large 4. Two real repos, 105 replanted bugs. Find and fix what you can. The results: - Qwen 3.8 Max (max): 25.7 - DeepSeek V4.1 Flash (max): 21.7 - Kimi K3 (default): 23 - GLM-5.3 (max): 19 - Mistral Large 4 (high, its max): 15 (avg of 17, 11, 17) - Qwen3.8-27B: 15 (you can actually run it locally) It's not the best, the cheapest, or the fastest. It just is - an European model. The best thing I can say is that didn't ask me about cookies.

72% of the intelligence with 3.8% of the GPUs. Just to show how talented @MistralAI team is: this shows the "intelligence per GPU" ratio. - Mistral 4: 3,800 Grace Blackwell (published) 🇫🇷 - GPT-6 Astra: 100,000+ Grace Blackwell (published) - Grok 4.7: ~200,000 GPUs (estimate) - Claude Opus 5.5: ~500,000 Trainium2 (estimate) Proud!

Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk. • 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active. It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks. • State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. • Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure. • Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately. Open weights release end of October.

I skimmed it and generally agree with the sentiment. AI is a tool created by us to serve us. As such, despite the powers we endow it with, it will always be inferior to us. We have endowed great powers to bulldozers. Bulldozers have not replaced us. We do not idolize them. Bulldozers are not our “golden calf”. And neither are AIs.
I've only just started reading this and I already know it's gonna be a great article touching on important subjects I think you should consider.

Replying to @LeoBuilds_
Software engineers are supposed to do exactly what we’ve always done. Ensure that the composition and structure of the system is robust and maintainable and that the behavior of the system properly serves the needs of our users. This requires engineering discipline. It need not require detailed reading of the code; just as using compilers does not require detailed reading of the binary.
