ISW is releasing a new version of its interactive map displaying the pillars of Russia’s cognitive warfare infrastructure. Russia uses cognitive warfare to shape the decisions and will of its opponents. The Kremlin is expanding its network of global media partnerships, state-run international journalism training initiatives, and building a global media recruitment pipeline targeting young media professionals abroad. The Kremlin seeks to shape global narratives for decades to come. (1/2) The map includes Russian state media partnerships, state journalism training programs, and the Russian House cultural centers, which the Kremlin uses to project influence abroad. ISW will regularly update this interactive map.

Marco Rubio on Iran: We don't believe anybody is giving Iran anything that's changing the dynamics or the parameters of what we're seeing. They continue to fire on naval ships, and when they fire at our naval ships, they pay a price in tankers. They don’t hit our ships, but they lose five tankers. They lost five more last night. Four were damaged, and one was sunk. They'll continue to pay a price for that. In the meantime, we're going to continue to strangle them economically.

⏯️ OPINION: Putin is repeating the mistakes of the Third Reich Radosław Sikorski, Poland’s foreign minister, said Nazi Germany tried to bomb Britain into submission — and failed. Speaking on Polsat News, he argued that Putin is making the same mistake today. Terrorizing cities does not break a nation. It hardens it, rallies people together, and fuels resistance.

📞🇷🇺🇺🇸 Russian President Putin and US President Trump held a 1-hour-long phone call on Tuesday, the Russian side informed. The two leaders reportedly discussed the results of the visit of US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Kyiv and Moscow on September 5-6. According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, Putin also communicated to Trump that Russia doesn't have any aggressive plans against Europe. "The myths being spread about the Russian threat serve only as a cover for Europeans to increase their support for Ukraine and their own military spending," it was stated. Ushakov also said that the Russian president provided Trump with an "objective and thorough analysis of what is currently happening during the special military operation, as well as our overall vision for progress on the battlefield and the achievement of the goals and objectives set for the special military operation."

The fighters of the Saudi-supported PLC government in Yemen keep advancing against the Houthis as fighting has escalated significantly since September 4th. They are now pressing against the Houthis on several fronts. Today, their fighters advanced in Al-Bayda under the cover of airstrikes. They reached Al-Majrish and Dhi Amkhsheb in Al-Nasifa of Al-Zahir and continued through the Al-Hamiqan area. In Al-Jawf, they closed on Al-Labanat camp east of Al-Hazm after strikes on Houthi command posts. West of Taiz and in southern Hodeidah, they retook high ground at Al-Kadha and Al-Barh, tightened control around Hays, and repelled Houthi infiltration attempts. Drones and warplanes also hit Houthi gatherings west of Marib. Fighting resumed in July after years of static lines. It intensified from 4 September, when Houthis drove into western Taiz and southern Hodeidah to cut the Taiz-Mokha road and reach the Red Sea. They gained ground first and briefly severed a supply route. Government units then counter-attacked, recovered hills and junctions, and opened supporting moves in Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda. The four-day surge is the deadliest since the 2022 truce collapsed, with nearly a thousand killed and several thousands wounded.

According to Axios, citing an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president is optimistic on the opportunity for diplomacy between Ukraine and Russia before the winter months come, with Zelensky saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin could be pushed to sit at the negotiating table by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, regardless of his willingness to do so. Per Zelensky, the U.S. currently supports an additional winter package for Ukraine that would likely include air defense and energy assistance. Talks were reportedly more centered on ‘unblocking’ Russo-Ukrainian diplomatic channels than anything else, with potential next steps on how to move forward also being discussed. However, Zelensky rightly voiced his skepticism as he highlighted how Russia’s actions differ from what they’ve signaled to U.S. negotiators.

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, September 2, 2026: Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to exaggerate Russian forces’ battlefield performance to assert that Russian military victory in Ukraine is inevitable. These claims continue to be divorced from the battlefield reality on the ground, however. Other Key Takeaways: Putin insisted that Ukrainian defenses are collapsing across the frontline and that Russian forces are making rapid gains, contrary to all observable evidence from the battlefield. Putin is likely aware that he appears detached from the current battlefield realities in Ukraine and has attempted to present himself as an informed leader. Putin once again reiterated Russia’s continued unwillingness to freeze the current frontline or engage in any meaningful peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi released a statement of priorities for the Ukrainian military that outlines the focus on unifying operational planning to contest Russia’s initiative and bolster Ukraine’s long-term defensive capabilities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Commander of Ukrainian Ground Forces Major General Gennady Shapovalov and appointed Brigadier General Svyatoslav Zaitsya as his replacement on September 2. Ukraine’s Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and Security Service (SBU) elements engaged in a small arms firefight in Kyiv City on September 2. Ukrainian forces continued their intermediate- and long-range strike campaign against military assets and oil infrastructure in Russia. Ukrainian forces recently advanced in northern Sumy Oblast and the Slovyansk direction, and Russian forces recently advanced in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area. Russia launched two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, two Kh-59/69 cruise missiles, an unspecified number of S8000 Banderol-type loitering munitions, and 174 drones against Ukraine overnight. (1/2)

BIG | 🇨🇳🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️‼️ China was concerned enough about Ukraine’s expanding ability to reach deep inside Russia that Beijing formally asked Kyiv not to strike Vladivostok while one of China’s most senior officials was visiting the city. According to Kyodo News, Beijing asked Ukraine to refrain from attacks on Vladivostok while Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and his delegation attended the four-day Eastern Economic Forum. Ukraine agreed to the temporary restriction. Vladivostok lies more than 6,500 kilometers from Ukraine, but Beijing was concerned about the possibility of an operation resembling Ukraine’s 2025 Operation Spiderweb, which demonstrated Kyiv’s ability to conduct attacks thousands of kilometers beyond the conventional front line. The request itself illustrates how dramatically Russia’s strategic depth has eroded. Ukraine no longer needs every target to sit within the conventional range of a drone launched from Ukrainian territory to create uncertainty deep inside Russia, and even Beijing is now accounting for that reality when senior officials travel there. Kyiv’s willingness to accommodate the Chinese delegation also shows that Ukraine can combine expanding military reach with selective diplomatic restraint, an increasingly useful distinction as it seeks both to pressure Moscow and preserve relationships with major powers outside the Western alliance. 🚨 BREAKING: American troops are about to LOSE their cell phones… because Iran is watching EVERY video they post. CENTCOM’s top commander just dropped a bombshell: A single viral video of U.S. soldiers sprinting for cover during an Iranian strike gave Tehran a free, real-time map of our bases. Now Iran can see exactly where our people are hiding… and adjust the next missiles accordingly. Admiral Cooper warned the cost could be measured in American lives. Some troops in the Middle East may soon be ordered to hand over their phones completely. One post. One video. And the enemy gets the intel they need to kill more of our soldiers. This is the new battlefield — and our own social media is the weapon being used against us. Thoughts? Is this the price of “sharing” in a war zone? ⬇️

Unsettling facts have emerged about Putins meeting with Witkoff in Moscow yesterday: -Putin reportedly ranted to the two US envoys about how well Russia was doing on the frontline naming battlefield examples he had been given by his commanders. -He then went on to talk about the root causes of the war in his eyes a part historical lessons, which he prefaced saying had not been addressed yet therefore the war could not end. -US negotiators noted he saw himself in an increasingly strong position and therefore was hardening his negotiation positions, Putin explicitly asked Witkoff to pass messages about battlefield success to the Ukrainians. -The conclusion was Putin was far away from wanting to end the war.

The Kremlin's demands to address these so-called "root causes" amount to a demand for full Ukrainian capitulation with the installation of a pro-Russian government in Ukraine and commitments of Ukrainian neutrality – the same demands Putin has made since before the full-scale invasion.
Putin reiterated his demand for the elimination of the "root causes" of the war in Ukraine as a precondition for a peace agreement – a reference to Russia’s initial war demands that directly contradict US, European, and Ukrainian efforts to achieve a just and sustainable resolution to the war. ⬇️ Putin claimed that Russia is committed to ending the war in Ukraine but only if a peace agreement addresses the "root causes" of the war. Senior Russian officials have repeatedly defined these root causes as NATO's alleged violation of obligations not to expand eastward and Ukraine's alleged violations of the rights of Russian-speaking minorities in Ukraine. The Kremlin's demands to address these so-called "root causes" amount to a demand for full Ukrainian capitulation with the installation of a pro-Russian government in Ukraine and commitments of Ukrainian neutrality – the same demands Putin has made since before the full-scale invasion.

German AfD Leader Alice Weidel on Russia-Ukraine: The Alternative for Germany has a very clear position: we are always open to diplomatic channels. And we have always criticized the fact that, especially when we talk about Ukraine, we need an open channel to Russia in order to reach an understanding and achieve a peaceful solution. We have also always said that we need good relations not only with Russia, but above all with the United States. We can now see that the United States is sending representatives to Moscow and sounding things out between Moscow and Kyiv. That could actually have been a role for Germany and for a German federal government. In recent decades, it was common practice for us to act as a neutral mediator, and that role would suit us much better than being rhetorical warmongers, as we are today.

The news cycle has lately been dominated by legacy media outlets publishing highly classified intelligence data criminally leaked to it by disgruntled, unelected federal bureaucrats trying to undermine the efforts of the Constitutionally-elected Trump Administration. I have been commenting on this sorry phenomenon at length in recent days, and one comment I see over and over is this question: "Why are we not prosecuting the press?" The answer is..... complex. I wrote the below article to answer that question at a very high level. It's not a law journal article, it's just an explanation of the issues at a strategic level for those who might not be familiar with this complex legal landscape. Please read, if you are so inclined. It's about 1,500 words.
