Everyone on planet Earth has lost their damn minds. Voting for right wing governments when we’re on the verge of ecological and social collapse is an insane choice. Human beings are very dumb!

It is so frustrating that the media will not report the threat of climate change like they are doing with AI.
AI, they are warning may kill us all.
When it comes to climate they tend to say ‘stop with the negativity and the gloom and doom, what do scientists know?’ when the reality is even more serious:

Humanity is speeding towards a climate catastrophe.
That’s the stark warning from the latest @UNEP report.
Every fraction of a degree of warming will cost lives, deepen inequalities & push ecosystems closer to irreversible damage.
We must raise ambition, accelerate #ClimateAction & fight for humanity. NOW.

It is official now: the new UN report finds we'll cross the 1.5°C warming limit very soon. Now what?
Two months ago we described the range of plausible climate trajectories ahead in this article.
In short: it's like we're stuck in quicksand, where only an active pull can free us.
We are in the Age of Humans - the Anthropocene.
Our new article (open access) shows how even with a moderate future emissions scenario, global temperature will still be elevated by 3-4°C in the year 3000!
Lifetime of our CO2 in the air is that long.

The emissions scenarios underlying the next generation of climate model runs that will be featured in the upcoming IPCC 7th Assessment Report are officially out! I have a new explainer over at Carbon Brief taking an in-depth look at what they mean and whats changed (link below)

Hate to break it to you but having an emergency alert interrupting your Friday night is the least of our worries ongoing.
We are not in an episode of Friends anymore.
We’ve become amongst the most irresponsible generation that ever existed - ignoring warnings from the highest scientific experts. Now the planet is hotter than it’s been in 100,000 years and can only get hotter.
The old way of living has gone I’m afraid, it’s not a choice, it doesn’t matter whether people understand or accept it or rail against it.
We are where we are. Its physics. It’s just a question of how long it takes for people to understand.

Never forget that the clowns who are currently saying “we can’t stop climate change, just accept it” are the same people who spent the last decade doing everything possible to prevent us from stopping climate change.

Climate denial is getting louder. Reality is getting harder to ignore.
When parks are brown, rivers are shrinking and firefighters are battling blazes across the globe, governments must accelerate climate action, not slow it down.

If you think it’s an exaggeration to say that climate change will be as devastating as World War II, then you are not paying attention. It will be far worse and it won’t end.
2024 was the hottest year in over 125,000 years, long before human civilisation arose.
David Attenborough warns ‘the collapse of human civilisation is on the horizon’.
Scientists in his documentary BREAKING BOUNDARIES warn that we risk the complete stabilisation of the planet.
For fuck’s sakes, please God listen to these scientists who have spent their entire professional lives studying how the planet works:

Armed men have invaded the Apiwtxa Indigenous village on the Brazil–Peru border, targeting indigenous leaders who protect their land from narco-traffickers and illegal loggers. Indigenous Peoples defend the world's most biodiverse forests — they shouldn't have to do it at gunpoint. @LulaOficial,
protect the Ashaninka and all border communities now.
It of utmost importance that we protect our front line indigenous protectors. This is a global issue. All eyes on Ashaninka.

FAQs on wildfires in Canada.
What causes wildfires?
Lightning and fire.
What makes wildfires more likely to spread?
Heat. Drought. Low humidity. Wind. Dry vegetation.
How has climate change affected wildfires?
Fire seasons are longer. Forests are drier. Large fires are more common. Extreme fire weather is becoming more frequent.
Is Canada "causing" the fires?
No. Lightning and small campfires have caused the fires in Canada.
Why are they getting worse?
Warmer temperatures and earlier snowmelt are lengthening Canada's fire season and creating more days with extreme fire weather.

It is important to resist the commodification of basic human needs. Food, water and healthcare cannot be subordinated to market considerations or geopolitical interests. Access to adequate food is a fundamental human right grounded in the dignity of every person. Meeting this need not only alleviates suffering but also addresses underlying causes of geopolitical instability. Indeed, food security is an essential component of global and integral security. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

"Models can't even get the past right" is wild to say about a field whose models from the 1970s predicted today's temperature within a fraction of a degree, and erred on the side of underestimating it. The warming we've experienced is pretty much exactly what climate models predicted as much as 30 years ago.
