There will come a time when we, the SARS2 aware, get blamed for all the ill health. It will be “well if you knew, why didn’t you say anything?”. We tried, we really did, and we wore respirators all the time, you could see. Nearly 400,000 papers here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/research/co…

John Milton coined ‘sensuous’ so that he wouldn't have to use ‘sensual.’ ‘Sensual’ usually describes gratification of the senses or physical appetites as an end in itself. ‘Sensuous,’ on the other hand, usually implies pleasing of the senses by art or similar means.
Who is inventing words like John Milton these days? He gave us pandemonium, sensuous AND complacency, truly a generational run

Learning to use a computer at 82 and spending seven years on a 6,000 word dictionary, that is incredible dedication. So glad her recordings mean younger generations can still learn Wukchumni.
Marie Wilcox realized she was the last person on Earth who could speak the Wukchumni anguage fluently, so at 82, she taught herself to use a computer and spent seven years typing a 6,000 word Wukchumni dictionary, the first written record of the language in history, to save it from extinction.

The weather may be wild, but nature definitely knows how to put on a show. The waterfalls are even more powerful, the water rushing with incredible force and the sound is simply something else. 📍Hawes, Yorkshire Dales – at Hawes, England

The fact that the Ghosts movie is the number one movie in the UK is probably the most cheering and reassuring news I've heard about the UK in some time. We're gonna be OK, folks! 👻
Thanks to all who went to see the Ghosts movie this weekend and made it the UK’s number one film! We’re all so thrilled. Happy Halloween! X

#Ootd is this sweet 1775-1785 gown. @colonialwmsburg notes it uses fabric 1725-30 and may have been worn with a stomacher. It was then remade so it had a front closure and the back may have also been altered from a sack back to make it a robe a l'angalise. #Fashionhistory

🇬🇧 In 18th-century London, dictionary-maker Samuel Johnson adored his cat Hodge. He personally bought oysters for him, rather than send his servants. Today, a bronze statue of Hodge sits on a dictionary beside oyster shells outside Johnson’s former home in Gough Square.

And lo it came to pass…
The contract has gone to the firm that picked up baby boxes, initially (first 4 years) with no competitive tendering: it already had a big call-off contract with SG for printing and more loosely-defined other stuff.

Worth reading. You may recall the video of the doc on his way to work in A&E each day gradually getting sicker. Hospital full of covid & flu. No testing, no interest in what he or anyone had. No understanding of infectious period. He used Copyright to get his video removed. 1/
The Selfish NHS doctor DISABLED my post that quoted, clipped and LINKED his YouTube video. He said it’s a SHAME we don’t get better PPE, he'd TRY to get his own, and made his video PRIVATE! I cut Tuesday out but others may have been EXPOSED while queueing in the Post Office. 💔
