In cancer care, use of alternative medicine is associated with increased death. In this study, greater conspiracy mentality and lower science literacy skills are linked to believing that cures for cancer are being suppressed: semanticscholar.org/paper/Th…
Replying to @jonathanstea
And further, he who holds the poison also holds the cure The cure for cancer has been known for decades, but of course we can’t let that cat out of the bag and lose our billions in “cancer” research now can we? Absolutely pathetic

I'm rather fascinated by how many education consultants and education resource businesses are jumping on board the oracy train. @greg_ashman

A colleague who was a teacher for 30 years once told me something I have never forgotten: "Back when I started teaching, if a student got a bad grade, the parents/school would say to the student 'why didn't you work hard enough?' Today however, when a kid gets a bad grade, the parents/school now say that same thing to the teacher."
The teacher who gives a failing grade has to explain it to the student, the parents, and the principal. The teacher who gives everyone an A has a quiet weekend. Still confused about how grade inflation has gotten so bad?

And this is what happens when we don’t use standardised, externally assessed, anonymous examination as much as possible. The extrinsic motivators to game the system are overwhelming, and the grades become meaningless.

A terrible tragedy carried out by a mentally disturbed individual. Not sure anyone is to blame as much as people would like to apportion blame. Horrible, just horrible

As usual ridiculous cherrypicking of the Brendan Nugent account. Some right accounts treating him as simply a leftie based on older tweets ignoring obvious recent shift in behaviour. Some left accounts treating ***very obviously*** sarcastic tweets re Hanson etc as sincere.

The image below compares selected glyphs from the undeciphered Indus Valley (Harappan) script and the undeciphered Rongorongo script of Easter Island (Rapa Nui). It lays out 24 somewhat-similar pairs. At face value, it looks like this has to be more than a coincidence! But then you start thinking about how most of the parallels involve simple geometric forms, stick figures, U-shapes, circles, or outlines of plants or animals, which increases the probability of similarities. What really kills the mood is when you realize that the Indus script contains around 400 principal signs, which would make 24 signs only 6% of the total inventory. And there are about 120 signs (at the lower end of the estimations) in the Rongorongo script, which would make 24 signs only 16-20% of the total inventory (at most). Average that out, and you have about a 12% match between the two scripts. Would you call that a "near identical writing system"? So the visual overlap is very limited when compared to the size of either catalog, and the signs shown here are very basic iconographs, which don't lend themselves to systematic correspondence. Scholars noted these superficial resemblances long ago, but they have generally been seen as non-diagnostic, taking into consideration not only what I wrote above, but also the large time gap between the two cultures, the geographic separation, and the lack of any other more convincing evidence linking them. If would be nice if we could read them, but the two scripts still aren't deciphered. Anyone taking any bets on if they come from the same language family?
Two civilizations, 3000 years apart and on opposite sides of the world, with a near identical writing system that nobody has ever decyphered. Pure coincidence, or a shared source that history forgot?

And yet education academics in Australia want us to believe that “there’s nothing to see here” with respect to the quality of initial teacher education in this country. There should be NO teachers in Australia who endorse neuroflapdoodle like #LearningStyles. Attn @JasonClareMP
💡A survey of Australian teachers found 88% believe in the learning styles myth, 38% believe students learn better through discovery than explicit instruction, 41% believe testing tends to detract from learning. If you're taught neuromyths about learning from someone who is supposed to be an expert, you'll likely believe them. The report rightly recommends strengthening initial teacher education, among other things. cis.org.au/publication/knowl…

Again and again, a rigorous new 2026 study definitively busts the "learning styles" myth, proving that multimodal instruction works best for everyone regardless of their supposed learning style. To finally kill this persistent neuromyth, we urgently need to prioritize cognitive science literacy in teacher training programs. psycnet.apa.org/doiLanding?d…

Clare Craig is chair of HART, who identify as "independent experts questioning the narrative", but are actually a bunch of quacks and conspiracy theorists. They were spectacularly wrong throughout the pandemic, and have now turned that "expertise" to folic acid and Lucy Letby. 🤷‍♂️
HART's leaked chat logs show members falsely claimed that vaccines caused "carnage", talked about hanging nurses, suggested using unfounded concerns over fertility to put people off vaccination, and discussed ridiculous theories about 5G and magnetism. xitter.cf/_johnbye/status/142139…

Ridiculously false claims, inability to pronounce words, long blonde hair: she's a perfect Trump press secretary.
WH Press Sec Katie Zacharia: The abortion pill has the same chemicals that they used in the extermination camps in Nazi Germany (This is totally false bullshit and deeply offensive)
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Nazi gas chambers used hydrogen cyanide (Zyklon B) and carbon monoxide. Abortion pills contain neither: mifepristone is a synthetic steroid that blocks progesterone, and misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin analog. encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/art… accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_doc… accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_doc…

The abortion pill mifepristone does NOT contain the same chemicals as Zyklon B used in Nazi camps. It is a synthetic steroid developed in France in the 1980s. Most science communicators spend enormous amounts of time asking: “Is this claim true?” Peter Hotez and Michael Mann’s Science Under Siege asks another question that may be just as important: How does a bad scientific claim acquire money, authority, amplification—and eventually political power? A thread about the machinery of disinformation. 🧵

Keep in mind that Aaron has posted at least one video of himself breaking the law at an archaeological site and has been remorseless about it. Hiring a tour with him could be a massive liability.
March 2027, I'm hosting a tour to Peru to celebrate the Equinox! This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, where we will participate in a private ceremony with a local village, witnessing the sunrise at an ancient site to celebrate Inti, the Inca God of the Sun. SPECIAL PROMO CODE: BAN for $500 off! It's going to be an epic adventure. I can't wait for you to join me megalithicmystery.com/tours
