Cool idea
I predict that in 5-10 years every household will have a local AI server that serves all the AI workload of the house, digital or robotics. It’ll be as common as a WiFi router or a fridge it creates a private mesh network to link all the devices in the house and does inference completely locally, with built in data vault resistant to remote data hacking or physical tampering. That way you can have every single piece of information about you and your family stored in there and never leaves it, and AI can use them to provide most accurate and customized services

Vallam Vadagal Aerohub (ACDEC) is finally open at SIPCOT Aerospace Park near Chennai. This G+8 Advanced Computing, Design and Engineering Centre spans a large built up area and is designed to house up to 3,000 professionals. It packs serious capability: Full R&D and design spaces Specialised test labs for Electronic Warfare, electro optics, EMI-EMC, and related systems. Support for drone and UAV testing. All under the Ministry of Defence’s DTIS, built with BEL, Bharat Dynamics, India Optel, HAL and TIDCO. Why this matters: India has long sent critical defence systems abroad for testing and validation. This facility brings that capability home - speeding up indigenous development of radars, sensors, EW suites, optics and drones while cutting costs, delays and strategic dependence. It also anchors high skill jobs and draws more aerospace and defence companies into Tamil Nadu’s corridor. Conceptualised years ago and now operational in 2026, Aerohub is a practical step toward real Atmanirbhar strength in one of the most sensitive domains of modern warfare.

For many years, India depended heavily on imported MRI machines — expensive systems that required liquid helium and consumed high amounts of power, placing them beyond the reach of numerous hospitals. Now, Bengaluru-based startup VoxelGrids has introduced India’s first fully indigenous 1.5-tesla MRI scanner. The system is already functioning at a cancer care centre in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, marking a meaningful development in the country’s medical technology journey. What makes this innovation stand out is not just that it is manufactured in India, but that it is engineered specifically for Indian conditions: • No dependence on liquid helium • Reduced power consumption • Approximately 40% lower cost compared to imported alternatives For hospitals operating under tight capital budgets, VoxelGrids also provides a pay-per-use model, helping extend advanced diagnostic imaging to underserved and remote areas. Leading this breakthrough is founder Arjun Arunachalam, who returned from a research career in the United States with the goal of addressing a long-standing gap in India’s healthcare infrastructure. With support from institutions such as Tata Trusts, the team dedicated years to research, refinement, and development to build a solution suited to domestic needs. This achievement represents more than just a new medical device. It reflects a broader transition — from reliance to self-reliance, from importing technology to innovating at home, and from limited access to wider inclusion in healthcare services. #MakeInIndia #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalTechnology #IndianStartup #AffordableHealthcare #Innovation

The reason government programs are so inefficient is that, unlike a commercial company, the feedback loop for improvement is broken, because they have a state-mandated monopoly and can’t go out of business if customers are unhappy. No matter how bad the service is at your DMV (sorry to pick on DMVs), you still have to use your DMV, because it’s a monopoly.

As many know, Professor V. Balakrishnan is a distinguished Indian theoretical physicist and educator whose career spans over five decades. Both his research and teaching are widely recognised. His courses range from introductory mechanics to quantum field theory and chaos, a very wide range.. His NPTEL Video Courses are worth attending. They cover Classical Physics (38 lectures), Quantum Physics (31 lectures), and there are additional ones on mathematical physics, nonlinear dynamics, stochastic processes, and non-equilibrium statistics. They have had over 6 million views. IIT Madras recognised him by inaugurating a“V. Balakrishnan Institute Chair” in 2022, celebrating his legacy in theoretical sciences and engineering. The impact of a good ( great in this case) undergraduate teacher can be life-changing. Gems like him are rare, and with Balakrishnan using NPTEL, he is accessible to everyone. @Kaju_Nut
When I joined IIT Mandi I reached out to Professor V. Balakrishnan for advice on teaching. He replied with a thoughtful and gracious response.
