Malcolm Gladwell is a fucking fraud and has made a career and millions just spewing bullshit that falls apart if you have a working brain or decide to lightly fact-check him. A phenomenally stupid man and grifter.
I have just published a piece that is very important to me. It's about why so many "progressives" and people on "the left" are lying to us right now about crime, safety, and repression, and what we should be doing instead. equalityalec.substack.com/p/…

Elliott-Chelsea Houses is one of the better NYCHA developments in NYC. Developers want to demolish it because it sits next to the High Line and Chelsea Market, and developers know that the Black and Latino tenants lack political representation in Chelsea and have no community.

I'm very very sad tonight. I just learned that Stephen Biesty passed away in 2024 at 63... He is one of my favorite artist. Rest in peace.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in an extradition case,” Fergie's attorney said. “Spanish judicial authorities can’t surrender control over the personal effects of a person sought in extradition just because a foreign government has asked for them… and now a judge has secretly turned over Fergie’s phone to the US.”
🚨 “Chambers’s legal team discovered that [Fergie’s] phone was no longer in the custody of the national court in Madrid and had been turned over to the FBI…”
Where is the law? Apparently, no where to be found in this case of political persecution.

Zohran Mamdani launched his mayoral campaign two years ago today. @PeterSterne interviewed him at the time. And it's remarkable how decarceration has not been the mayor's focus, at all, in office.

“I’m grieving the deaths of two Nazi soldiers killed today..”
I’m grieving the deaths of the two Israeli soldiers killed in Hebron today, and praying for the full & speedy recovery of those who were injured.
I’ve spoken out loudly this week against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, which imposes violence on a daily basis, and I will continue to do so. But violence is not the path to ending it — or to achieving safety, freedom, and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
And neither is collective punishment or ethnic cleansing of an entire neighborhood, or punishing millions of people for the criminal act of two, which Netanyahu has promised to enact in response.
I’ve seen a lot this week and I’ll have more to say about in the coming days (I’m on my way home shortly). There is a path to ending this excruciating cycle of violence. It starts by insisting that every life is sacred, that everyone is created in God’s image.
For now: Shabbat Shalom, to everyone who believes in the hard work of making peace & justice a reality, for everyone.

Give up the ghosts of dead miracles so new ones can form. Aka stop making biopics about magical negroes and trapping their magic in bad scripts and minstrelsy, disrupting the archive, the ark they already built, the frequency of the planet even

Both Ro Khanna & Brad Lander went to the West Bank & got detained by IDF. Afterward both still refuse to support an arms embargo & sanctions on Israel. Liberal Zionism cannot have the best interest of Palestinians in mind, because it must have the best interest of Israel in mind.

That’s crazy - I assume this means that you’re going to step in and attempt to prevent the upcoming West Bank land sale going on in your city then? Or will we just get more hollow statements and increased funding and coordination to the exact actors supporting this violence?
Today, Brad Lander, rabbis, and other New Yorkers accompanied Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. For that, they were detained by the Israeli government.
Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is.
I am thankful that Brad has been released. But other New Yorkers remain detained, and they must be released immediately.
The same Israeli government detaining them has committed a horrific genocide against Palestinians, killing more than 74,000 people over the last few years alone.
The detention of these New Yorkers must end. The occupation must end. The genocide must end.

In the midst of violent repression of student protestors, she compared the language of campus protests to WMDs - a morally repugnant, intellectually obtuse essay.
lmao….not Zadie Smith signing this Sally Rooney letter as if we don’t all remember Smith’s 2024 @newyorker essay criticizing pro-Palestinian student protestors when it actually mattered. girl, pls, try cleansing your soul some other way🙄

This is an "Israel"-laundering PR stunt.
Lander, a zionist politician, won't pull investments in Elbit, he won't arrest Hind Rajab's killer roaming the streets of NYC, he won't disrupt the synagogues holding real estate auctions for stolen Palestinian land. Business as usual
BREAKING: @bradlander was just detained by Israeli authorities along with 40 international volunteers while harvesting olives in the West Bank.
“Occupation is a crime under international law,” Lander said. “Harvesting olives is not a crime under any law I know.”

🚨 BREAKING: Half a million Palestinians in Gaza will lose monthly food assistance as funding shortages force major World Food Programme cuts ahead of winter, ABC News Australia reports.
➤ WFP is reducing its monthly reach from 1.6 million people to 1.1 million. Families receiving two food parcels will now get one, and flour bags will shrink.
➤ Daily hot meals have fallen from 250,000 to 150,000. Some families in hard-to-reach areas will receive meals every other day instead of daily. Cash assistance for 75,000 families is being cut by 40%.
➤ WFP’s Carl Skau said traditional donors, including the U.S. and Europe, have reduced funding. “It’s not because the needs are down … it’s only due to the lack of funding,” Skau told ABC.
➤ Around 1.4 million people face crisis-level hunger or worse, including 200,000 in emergency conditions. WFP says it urgently needs $450 million for six months of operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Targeting a bank for investing in weapons factories is a hate crime now. I love this fantastic new standard we are setting!!
NYC Council Speaker Julie Menin on this morning’s vandalism of a Capital One branch on the Upper East Side, where windows were smashed and graffiti reading “DROP ELBIT” and “PAL ACTION” was left on the entrance:
“What the NYPD is doing now is they're investigating it as a hate crime. They're gonna do a fast investigation; we appreciate their work on this, and the community is deeply concerned and upset about it.”

Is this the new LARP? American politicians flying to the West Bank to cosplay as defenders of Palestinians while supporting the very institutions that make settler violence possible in the first place?
Brad Lander, we didn’t need you to fly to Palestine and get into a scuffle with settlers to prove you’re an ally. We needed you to stop investing our money in Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer, while it profited from the genocide of our people. We needed you to stop proudly identifying as a Zionist while condemning Palestinian resistance.
Palestinians don’t need your performative solidarity. We need you to stop supporting our oppressors.
And those who stand with Palestine cannot allow these gestures to buy our trust, erase politicians’ records, or earn them our votes. A photo op in the West Bank does not absolve anyone of their complicity.
Our standards for solidarity with Palestinian liberation cannot be lowered just because politicians have learned how to perform it.
I'm in the West Bank this week as part of the “Protect the Harvest” coalition along with @israelispeaceny, @ucpinpalestine & Protect the Harvest, which is bringing people together from around the world to help Palestinian farmers harvest olives in the face of state-sanctioned settler terrorism.
Our goals for the trip are to help protect the olive harvest — and to shed a light on the reality of the occupation. To ensure that international solidarity goes beyond the harvest, to become a sustained commitment to protecting Palestinian communities from settler violence, forced displacement, and the ongoing threats to their right to remain on their land.
And, speedily and in our day, to secure human rights, safety, equality & freedom for both Palestinians and Israelis.
Thankfully, our corner of today's harvest was peaceful and successful. But violence unfortunately is never far away.
We’ll keep you posted on our efforts this week, especially the stories we hear from Palestinians on the ground. Protect the Harvest.
