I continue to believe a lot of pain is already factored in by the markets and near-term downside looks quite limited to me. Unless this stalemate drags on for another 3-4 months or if there is an equivalent of Pearl harbor/Hiroshima-Nagasaki it is unlikely that we will see a significant down move from this level.
Every big buying opportunity has this extreme uncertainty about a particular event. In 2008 it was about domino effect of Lehman collapse, in 2020 it was about effects of the lockdown and how long it would last, in 2022 it was a threat of a nuclear attack by Russia and an imminent recession sur o rate hikes/QT. Today there is fear about blowing up power plants, desalination plants, steel plants, etc.
In such periods, I like to fall back on the teachings of my guru Howard Marks. Check out this excerpt about investing sacred with intellectual humility. RT if it makes sense to you in these times.
In Mar 2020 markets went down first, markets bottomed out on the first day of the lockdown. Covid cases kept rising, lockdown kept getting extended, but the market kept going higher.
In 2022, after the Russia-Ukraine war, the market corrected sharply as commodity prices rose, and we saw hyperinflation. Central banks across the world kept raising rates. US hikes interest rates by 500 bps and India hikes it by 250-300bps. There were talks of global recession, etc. Interest rates are still high, Russia-Ukraine war is still going on, but markets moved on after initial pain period.
Point is the impact of news flow diminished as time passes. As thing strand market has probably discounted atleast a couple of months of stalemate in Iran war. My gut feeling unless the stalemate lasts more than 6 months we will not see any meaningful downside from here.

This chart is fun studying if you watched any TV show in the last 25 years. It also shows how rare it is what Breaking Bad pulled off. The show improved its rankings each season. Usually shows get worse (The Simpsons and even Yellowstone). Source: reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful…

Is there a point where an open world becomes “too big” and overwhelming, or can it never be large enough?

The cause of broader market chart movement of 25+ years summarized beautifully in a table by @niteen_india bhai.
If you spend 10 hours on charts, drawing the lines, cutting n redrawing, no harm spending 1 hour on these things also. It will only add more conviction to your charts.
Highlighting as it's a personal observation n I could be wrong, I see too much madness around technicals n too less focus to fundamentals. Last 1 year too, have been seeing some perplexed why market moving , some giving absurd high targets without rationale n some absurd low targets without rationale by just drawing few lines here n there. Aise nahi hota bhai.
It was just the reverse 7-8 years back when all it mattered was fundamentals n technicals were a rare breed in public.
Balancing and hybrid is the key leveraging both skills to compliment each other

We are at a unique juncture in the Indian stock markets.
Future earnings potential, according to consensus estimates, is incredibly high and does not reflect the past.
The recent past has been distorted by the effects of COVID, with massive one-time gains that don’t represent the true underlying picture.
It’s as deceptive a cycle as one can get.
