According to a study published on June 26, 2025 in the journal PLoS One, ivermectin was tested on endocrine-resistant breast cancer cells, including tamoxifen-resistant (MCF-7/LCC2) and fulvestrant-resistant (MCF-7/LCC9) types. These aggressive cancer cells do not respond well to hormone therapy. In laboratory tests, ivermectin showed strong effects within 24 hours, with IC50 values of 9.35 µM and 9.06 µM, reducing cell movement by over 50% and decreasing invasion by 62% and 35%, respectively.
The study also found that ivermectin worked by blocking the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process, which is linked to cancer spread. It reduced key markers like vimentin and snail and suppressed the Wnt signaling pathway by lowering Wnt5a/b and LRP6 proteins. These findings suggest that ivermectin may help slow the spread of aggressive, treatment-resistant breast cancer.
