Another MND diagnosis in rugby. Another family devastated. How long until @WorldRugby @RFU acknowledge the obvious @WillStewNeuro @AndrewW93733842 @AlixPopham @ProgressiveRug @RhonddaBryant @Tommo33s @ChrisNowinski1 @peterrobinson86

Great question @AlixPopham! @theRPA how is this risk being communicated to your members? Do you echo the @NFLPA concerns? These figures are truly frightening 😔
Question 2 the @RPA are you going to warn the current crop of players of this study? Remember the rugby season is twice as long as the @NFL season with 2 x the amount of games & on average each player is involved in more contact during those games 😔😢😡🙏❤️🏉🧠 @WorldRugby

If @theRPA do (as I am sure must be the case) lobby for strengthening of measures to protect their members/current players against this risk? What/who are pushing back against these changes? 🤔😔🧠🏉

Thanks @bencoles_ & @Phil_Vickery for putting all the arguments in court about legal procedure over the past few months/years in to perspective. It’s past time for @RFU @WorldRugby @WelshRugbyUnion to provide the help those of us who are struggling need ❤️🧠🤕
An incredibly moving interview with the great @Phil_Vickery. We discussed his fears for his future living with probable CTE, his great mate Steve Thompson, and why he would do it all again. Exclusive for @ObserverUK. Read here: observer.co.uk/news/sport/ar…

100% @Rich_CoatesCTE. Time to do the right thing @WorldRugby, but I won't hold my breath. & another coroner finding of CTE in the case of @england legend Nobby Stiles yesterday as a result of repeated head impacts... not tenable for @WorldRugby and others to maintain the denial

@WorldRugby I personally think you need to stop telling people there is no connection, when clearly there is. Player welfare and informative descions need to come before profits, if the game we love is to survive. @9smiler @Phil_Vickery @Tommo33s @peterrobinson86

Please share in the rugby community 🙏This independent research is so important to help us make positive change for brain health in sport. @AlixPopham @Tommo33s @PlantedSam @Phil_Vickery @Scabs15 @tomrock84 @PaulPook
If you're a retired rugby player aged 30-59 who has had three or more concussions, you might be eligible to take part in the @UniSouthWales’ groundbreaking research. Email [email protected] for more information. #BePartOfTheSolution

I've had no response to this from @worldrugby - not even a holding response - every week every board member of every union and every governance committee is putting players brains at risk unless they speak up - if you know one of them please cc this to them

So much of this resonates... it's not an acceptable price to pay for those impacted. How will history look back on the current stance of those who govern contact sport? @rfu @WorldRugby @WelshRugbyUnion @NRL @FA @TheRFL @AFL @ProgressiveRug @Head4Change @AlixPopham
Carl Hayman on life with dementia: Success now is doing one job in a day Carl is one of rugby’s greatest players, an amazing man and great friend. Knowing how he’s suffering breaks my heart Carl deserves so much more from the game he dedicated his life to thetimes.com/sport/rugby-uni…

Same here in N. Ireland. No help and no awareness. No support available for me or my family. TBI team say I don't sit with them and I'm too young for the dementia services, brick wall after brick wall. Disheartening doing nothing as the decline creeps on 😢
Replying to @BBCWalesNews
I would like to point out every single person we support in wales are being turned away by the memory and dementia services, with some even being refused to be seen because "they are too young to access these services"

Time for a conversation based on latest science @WorldRugby @RFU? Are 12 year olds being harmed under your governance? This work by @ChrisNowinski1 suggests possibly so… Parents and children deserve transparency in order to weigh risk vs reward… it’s the cover up that gets you
Take action now @WorldRugby 😔😢😡🙏❤️🏉🧠

Reflecting on @QuilterNations I think it would be almost impossible to create a more inconsistent, poorly communicated & poorly executed set of policies than they’ve managed with head contact in rugby union @ProgressiveRug @WorldRugby @Head4Change @AndrewW93733842 @mulcs85

Finally, I have to question the culture and ‘rugby values’ of those bodies who know doubt trade on the same characteristics. I’m gutted for the game I love and believe the threat to the sport isn’t by those lobbying for changes, it’s those bodies handling this so pooorly

@WorldRugby and constituent bodies insist game is safest ever, and player welfare is #1 priority, but comments on here acknowledge they are negotiating away/weakening player protections due to commercial interests or because of fears stakeholders won’t adopt them

Worst still fans don’t get why the changes are required, partly because @worldrugby and others still look to minimise the risk of the games as is, based on increasingly marginalised science, whilst broadly dismissing the diagnoses of the likes of @AlixPopham or @Tommo33s (and me)

This isn’t an academic study with interesting outcomes from abstract test subjects. It’s players lives, and it seems @WorldRugby are using the lessons learned to evolve the likes of the HIA process, - is this ethical & I also question whether players have properly consented

Referees are reacting to pressure week to week (either public or from their higher ups, who knows), and they are clearly operating on different law interpretations to the subsequent panels issuing rescindments. I Think refs have been poor but they are being undermined weekly

Knocked out in the warm up, but allowed to play. Sustained further head knocks through the match. Remind me how Rugby League is looking after players welfare again 🤔 The law suit will be interesting…
Storm confirm Eli Katoa is in a stable condition after suffering seizure activity & undergoing surgery. Reportedly had a brain bleed & surgery was to release fluid & relieve pressure on his brain (via @ScottBaileyAAP). A serious situation & pretty unprecedented from an NRL perspective. Prognosis & recovery process unclear at this stage - hanging out for continued positive updates & wish Katoa the best.

Tonight on the advice of @NIAS999 I had to manhandle an unconscious 76 year old who had clearly suffered a stroke in to my car and drive him to hospital, NIAS were ‘very busy’ and couldn’t attend. What is going on @mikenesbittni? It’s third world 👎🏻🤯🤬 @BelfastLive @BelTel
