A 20-year study of a million children found that kids conceived by IVF frozen embryo transfer had double the cancer rate.
84% of US IVF transfers now use frozen embryos.
Danish researchers followed every child born in Denmark from 1996 to 2012 for up to 20 years. The study was published in JAMA last week.
Children conceived without assisted reproduction developed cancer at 18.3 per 100,000 per year.
After frozen embryo transfer, the rate was 41.1.
After ICSI, where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg, it was 27.9.
After frozen transfer, leukemia ran more than twice as high.
The only method that showed no increase was a fresh embryo, never frozen, created by placing eggs and sperm together in a dish.
That version is now the exception. In 2021, 84% of US IVF transfers used frozen embryos and 78% used ICSI, according to the CDC.
Compared with children of women with a history of infertility who conceived without treatment, the frozen embryo risk stayed at more than double.
In the authors' words, the results suggest "procedure-related, rather than infertility-related, factors." This is not the first time the pattern has shown up.
A 2019 JAMA study of the same Danish children at 11 years found it too. A 2022 study of 2.3 million children in Taiwan found those conceived through assisted reproduction had 58% higher cancer risk, "mainly owing to leukemia and hepatic tumor."
The absolute risk is small, and most of these children will never get cancer. The Danish children were conceived with older freezing methods, and the authors warn the results "may differ for contemporary protocols."
Nobody yet has long-term data on IVF as it is done today. Children conceived with today's methods won't have 20 years of data until the 2040s, so today's IVF children are, in effect, the trial.
Parents deserve to hear these numbers before they sign the consent form, because their child is the one who will carry the risk.

I sat my 7-year-old down and explained to him that dying industries (legacy media, academia, DNC politics) ride algorithmically driven cultural hysterias both because it’s the only way they can stay relevant and because their business models demand it.
He looked up at me and with a tear in his eyes asked, ‘so, for the sake of the journos, the assistant professors, and Dem Politics Inc, we’re obligated to attest to the moral urgency of the hysteria and act completely emotionally dysregulated?’
‘Yes,’ I answered him. ‘Yes, that’s right.’
And then we both sat quietly.

The damage from this was so great. Really undermined Catholicism in ireland. All over a lie.

Feser is correct on the substance. Current AI (including advanced models) produces impressive simulations of cognitive tasks but lacks genuine understanding or intellect, as argued by Searle, Penrose, Dreyfus, and classical philosophy. Trump's "super intelligence" rebrand is rhetorical branding that does not resolve the underlying distinction.

Ah yes, you're "born this way." Oh wait...
Almost all women's aggregate behavior can be classified as "social contagion." It's almost entirely herd behavior.
Additionally, female homosexuality isn't real and male homosexuality is just a fetish for transgression.
The last few decades have been exhausting, having had to live through the endless lies.
American teens are becoming straight again, with - especially - female bisexuality in sharp retreat in the youngest cohorts.

Always funny when leftists go “Art is left wing” like they aren’t constantly double checking and breathing down the necks of every artist, musician, and actor to make sure they’re not right wing and making sure they lose everything they have if they are right wing.

"The question of whether they should be artificially kept alive"
It's weird to see so many people acting like this boy was practically dying and they just took him off life support. This boy wasn't dying. He was killed because the doctors thought his life wasn't worth living and that he probably wouldn't live to adulthood.
Is it because people don't want to face the fact that doctors murdered a 2-year-old boy because of his disability?
Nope, sorry, anyone comparing themselves or their own disabled child to this baby is really testing me. I have zero confidence that I know the 100% right answer to what should have been done here but it is not black and white. I wouldn't want anyone I love to have to live in suffering like this. The question of whether they should be artificially kept alive only to experience continued and unimaginably profound suffering would absolutely torture me. I wouldn't allow it to happen to an animal and if I did allow it to happen to a human baby then that would be partly because of my own selfishness for sure. It's easy enough to make a confident post but an entirely different thing if you had to face this and ask yourself tough questions in reality.

This book is terrible. These scenarios all involve this bizarre leap where the AI
“intelligence” is so impressive that all power just drifts to it or is handed to it because it would be negligent not to do so, but then its “alignment” problem kills us.
That is, they imagine a world in which, contrary to all human history and sociology, humans cease all disagreement about values, priorities, politics, in favor of trusting the one mechanical expert whose reasoning they can neither understand nor verify.
The only way to stop it is for heroic reddit athesists to think really carefully about how to align it to their, frankly, juvenile utilitarianism.
The doomsday part is just rube stuff. The theory about human impotence and machine superintelligence is a parody of Calvin’s doctrine of the bondage of the will and the sovereignty of God
Is there a possibility for real harms from malware? Yes. Could there even be catastrophes? Sure. But spare me.
The AI superintelligence theory proceeds from a reddit atheist anthropology that the way to the right values and priorities is being smarter. The actual evidence of human history is that integrity and loving the right things is the basis of true wisdom.

Pope Leo XIII: “The contention, then, that the civil government should at its option intrude into and exercise intimate control over the family and the household is a great and pernicious error…Paternal authority can be neither abolished nor absorbed by the State…The socialists, therefore, in setting aside the parent and setting up a State supervision, act against natural justice, and destroy the structure of the home” (Rerum Novarum 14)
A Massachusetts family says the state took custody of their teenage daughter after they refused to affirm her as a boy, citing their Catholic faith.
The parents allege a school counselor socially transitioned their daughter without their knowledge, then reported them to the Department of Children and Families.
Now the state has guardianship, and a restraining order prevents the teen's parents and older brother from contacting her.
A judge has temporarily blocked the state from administering high-dose testosterone as the family fights the case. The next court hearing is set for Oct. 29. | @LaurenGreenFox @AmericaNewsroom

Thomas Aquinas on the nature of Islam from the beginning:
“The point is clear in the case of Muhammad. He seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh goads us. His teaching also contained precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure. In all this, as is not unexpected, he was obeyed by carnal men.
As for proofs of the truth of his doctrine, he brought forward only such as could be grasped by the natural ability of anyone with a very modest wisdom. Indeed, the truths that he taught he mingled with many fables and with doctrines of the greatest falsity. He did not bring forth any signs produced in a supernatural way, which alone fittingly gives witness to divine inspiration; for a visible action that can be only divine reveals an invisibly inspired teacher of truth. On the contrary, Muhammad said that he was sent in the power of his arms [weapons]—which are signs not lacking even to robbers and tyrants.
What is more, no wise men, men trained in things divine and human, believed in him from the beginning. Those who believed in him were brutal men and desert wanderers, utterly ignorant of all divine teaching, through whose numbers Muhammad forced others to become his followers by the violence of his arms. Nor do divine pronouncements on the part of preceding prophets offer him any witness. On the contrary, he perverts almost all the testimonies of the Old and New Testaments by making them into fabrications of his own, as can be seen by anyone who examines his law.
It was, therefore, a shrewd decision on his part to forbid his followers to read the Old and New Testaments, lest these books convict him of falsity. It is thus clear that those who place any faith in his words believe foolishly.”

Jutro w Łodzi pożegnamy dziesięcioro takich więźniów, dopiero niedawno odnalezionych przez IPN. Będzie to pogrzeb spóźniony o kilka dekad, bo Niemcy zakopali dzieci w anonimowych dołach, a zarazem tamten poprzedni pochówek nastąpił zbyt wcześnie - bo co najmniej kilka dekad powinny były jeszcze żyć.
