Rains are expected tonight in Chennai but Red Alert rains (>200 mm) varuma ? Chennai has historically not experienced back-to-back 200 mm rainfall days from an Upper Air Circulation (UAC) without a break. The current UAC is close to Chennai which mean convergence would be slightly north of Chennai.

Today’s rainfall outlook: Rains are likely to be manageable compared with yesterday’s spell. The main convergence zone is expected to remain north of the UAC, favouring South Andhra Pradesh and the Tiruvallur district, which could receive good rainfall.
Hence, the chances of another widespread, very heavy rainfall spell across Chennai, similar to yesterday, appear slim today (just an personal opinion).
If anything forms or any massive cloud is converging like yesterday, will update the same even though it has less than 10% probability.

This is the #Pallikaranai wetland interim Zone of Influence (ZoI) proposed by the Tamil Nadu State Wetland Authority. Taking a dramatic u-turn, the authority has sharply reduced the proposed ZoI from 3,358 hectares to 128.19 hectares.
Remember, Pallikaranai, declared a Ramsar site in 2022, is #Chennai's last major freshwater wetland. It drains a 250 sq. km catchment, absorbs floodwater, recharges groundwater and filters pollutants.
Yes, the earlier 1-km buffer was bit of a overstretch affecting several patta landowners, but this latest interim ZoI, I feel is a total compromise.

DVAC files FIR against three @chennaicorp officials including an assistant commissioner rank official for unaccounted cash and G-pay transactions under the prevention of corruption act, 2018.
The Chennai City 4 unit of DVAC has named Hartin Rosario, GCC assistant commissioner, Madhavaram zone, for having unaccounted cash of Rs 2000, hid inside files in a cupboard in his ante room at his office in Madhavaram. He has given a written statement that he’s not aware how the money came.
Similarly, two other staff K Deepak Junior Engineer and G Periya Karuppan sanitary officer have been booked for having unaccounted transaction worth Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 65,000 in their GPay.
DVAC in the FIR has mentioned they have confirmed the “corrupt activities” of the officials, and registered a case.

DVAC arrests fire officer for getting bribe from doctor to give NOC to clinic.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested an Assistant District Fire Officer in Thiruvannamalai district on Wednesday for accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe from a doctor for issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a proposed clinic/hospital.
The complainant, Dr Ganesh, a resident of Chengam taluk, had applied for the NOC. According to the DVAC, Assistant District Fire Officer B Saravanan demanded Rs 10,000 to issue the certificate.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, Ganesh approached the DVAC’s Thiruvannamalai detachment, following which a case was registered and a trap was organised on Wednesday.
During the trap, Saravanan demanded and accepted the Rs 10,000 from the complainant. He was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

Reuters has reported that the pilot who was stabbed aboard FlyDubai Flight FZ 1073 manually released the lock on the cockpit door while he was lying on the floor.
That pilot’s name is Captain Smit Machchhar.
FOX: “The wounded pilot, listen to this, covered with blood and lying on the floor, had clicked open the release of the cockpit door.”
“A second set of pilots on board who were due to replace the first pair, landed the plane.”
“A pilot who had just been stabbed, had the wherewithal to open that cockpit door. This man can be described as none other than a hero.”
That decision allowed the replacement pilots to reach the cockpit and take control of the aircraft.
His heroic actions likely saved the the lives of every passenger on board.

Kavi Prasad, one of 13 persons named in a Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) case over alleged manipulation of govt tenders, was stopped at Chennai airport after immigration officials found a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against him.
Prasad arrived at the airport late on Tuesday night to board a flight to London. Immigration officials stopped him after checking the LOC and cancelled his departure. The DVAC team was informed and took him for questioning on Wednesday. He was released after about six hours of questioning.
Prasad is the close aide of Nehru’s brother KN Ravichandran.
The case, registered at DVAC Headquarters on Sept 4, relates to contracts awarded under the Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply Department between 2021 and 2025. The FIR named former minister K N Nehru, his brothers K N Manivannan and N Ravichandran, Prasad and other former legislators, govt officials, contractors and private individuals.
According to the FIR, the inquiry found prima facie evidence of a nexus between public servants, contractors and private persons in the tender process. It alleged that preferred contractors were identified before tenders were opened and that illegal gratification was collected in the name of “party fund”, at rates ranging from 7.5% to 10% of contract values. The FIR estimated the wrongful gain at Rs 1,020 crore.
The case followed a 258-page report submitted by the Enforcement Directorate to the DVAC in December 2025. Investigators examined WhatsApp chats, photographs and calculation sheets recovered from mobile phones as part of the inquiry.
The FIR cited alleged payments of Rs 1 crore, Rs 2.77 crore and Rs 5 crore in connection with contracts involving a private infrastructure company, besides other transactions.
The DVAC registered the case after obtaining permission under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and submitted the FIR and the ED report to the Principal Judge, City Civil and Sessions Court, Chennai. The investigation was continuing.
