Artemis III will be one of the most complex test missions in NASA history.
Launching in 2027, Artemis III astronauts will practice rendezvous and docking with two commercial lunar landers designed to carry crew from the Orion spacecraft to the lunar surface.
Details below ⬇️

ALT The Moon is seen shining over the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft atop the mobile launcher on January 28, 2026. The sky is a dark blue gradient in the background. The core stage of the rocket is a burnt orange color. It is topped with the white Orion spacecraft and sandwiched between two white solid rocket boosters. The mobile launcher is a trussed structure that stands behind the rocket. The perspective of the image if from below the rocket looking upward. Credit: NASA/Brandon Hancock

NEWS: Starship Flight 15 eyes November 8 with a dual catch, and Flight 16 could launch from Florida 🚀🚀
Starship could pull off two firsts before the year is out. Flight 15 is now eyeing November 8 with an attempt to catch both the Super Heavy booster and the Ship, and Flight 16 could become the first Starship launch from Florida's Launch Complex 39A in December.
A dual catch means the whole rocket comes home ready to fly again, which is the entire point of Starship. A second launch site on the East Coast matters just as much, because it ends the reliance on a single pad in Texas. If both happen, Starship ends 2026 looking like an operational system rather than a test program.

There is no fixed distance to Mars. Sometimes it is almost next door. Sometimes it is nearly seven times farther.
Earth and the Red Planet race around the Sun at different speeds, so the gap between them never stays still. At the closest approach, during opposition, only 55.76 million km separate us. At the farthest point the gap stretches to 401 million km. That is why missions do not leave whenever they feel like it: they wait for a narrow launch window, so they do not burn extra fuel or spend longer in space than they have to.
