The noble people of Awdal stand against this inhumanity. Rather than falsely attributing these actions to our community, the focus must shift to uncovering the real culprits behind the violence against Oromo families.
I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR DEFENDING INNOCENT OROMO FAMILIES
Since 1991, I have defended the rights and dignity of Awdal. I cannot demand justice for our people while remaining silent when innocent Oromo neighbours face the burning of their homes and looting of their belongings in Borama.
My parents taught me to defend human dignity without asking someone’s ethnicity. My oath demands that I uphold those values - even when others criticize me.
Human rights have no ethnic exceptions. I will not retreat from defending innocent people.
My heartfelt thanks to the religious leaders who spoke during Friday prayers to protect our Oromo neighbours. Your compassion must now be matched by action: protect threatened families, provide emergency assistance, and bring those responsible to justice through impartial investigation.
To Oromo residents of Awdal and Gebileh: you deserve safety, dignity, and a peaceful life. If you feel threatened, contact me directly on WhatsApp, day or night:

Protect our neighbours. Reject incitement. Defend human dignity.

Check out 𓆩9K • OG𓆪 🟩🟦🟥★'s video! #TikTok vt.tiktok.com/ZSgnpknCB/. Let’s not repeat the mistakes of yesteryears. PM Abiy Ahmed has not learnt any worthy lessons from the days of Menelik, Haile Sellassie, Mengistu & Meles Zenawi. Mesmerized by the numbers of his ethnicity Abiy believes he is the next Emperor & should wield absolute Power in Ethiopia. Unfortunately at this rate he is doomed & will watch over the dissolution of Ethiopia as we know it today.
JaWar what you don’t understand and will never understand is the bravery of the Tigrayan people. The bravery of the Amhara people. The bravery of the Oromo heroes that saved Ethiopia from the Italian fascism! TPLF is a troubled organization. This is obvious but Abiy Ahmed and the crazy Oromuma elites will never ever conquer the North!
You can tweet until the cows come home. You cannot change anything!
You can try to bury the news about the massacre of Orthodox Christians but the world is aware. You are and have been the advocate of the death of civilians. You will be held responsible!
The Wounded Pride: A Reversal of Fortune
Two photographs, two different moments in Ethiopia’s military history.
The first shows Major General Yohannes Woldegiorgis (John Medid) beside a captured ENDF colonel during the 2020–2022 Tigray war, when he was celebrated as a war hero. The second shows the same general, once a symbol of military victory, after reportedly surrendering to the ENDF on 26 October 2026.
I once used the expression “wounded-pride generals” in a media discussion to describe some of the military leaders commanding the ENDF. I was referring to officers who had previously been captured by the TPLF during the armed struggle against the Derg, and how those experiences were subsequently used for political propaganda, humiliation and psychological warfare. Looking at these two photographs brings that discussion back to mind.
But beyond the reversal of military fortunes lies a much more painful reality. Ethiopia's civil wars and successive armed conflicts have cost countless young lives. Generations have been sacrificed, families devastated, communities displaced, and the country's future undermined by cycles of violence.
The generals may rise as heroes one day and surrender another. The roles of captor and captive may reverse, but what remains unchanged is the enormous price the Ethiopian people continue to pay.
The real tragedy is not who captures whom, but how many more lives Ethiopia must lose, how many families must suffer, and how much of the country's future must be sacrificed before this cycle of war ends.

Fact-Check: Contradicted Figures on Moyale's Population and Reported Displacement:
1. On 22 October 2026, heavily armed forces from Ethiopia's Oromo region reportedly attacked Moyale and Hudet woredas (districts) in Dawa zone, Somali region. The attacks displaced thousands of people from both Somali and Oromo communities, forcing them to flee to other parts of Dawa zone (Somali region) and neighbouring Kenya.
2. UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency), UN Relief Agency (UNOCHA), Kenyan authorities, and Oromo politicians in Kenya and Ethiopia reported that between 40,000 and 50,000 people fled from Moyale (Oromo) into Kenya. However, Ethiopia's Central Statistical Agency (CSA) projected Moyale Oromo's population at just 15,181 in 2026. This apparent discrepancy raises questions about the geographical origin of the displaced people and the accuracy and of the reported figures.
3. If both figures refer to the same geographical area and comparable populations, they are incompatible. Therefore, at least one figure or the geographical attribution is incorrect or misleading, and required verification.

MOYALE CONFLICT: ETHIOPIA'S FEDERAL BOUNDARIES MUST BE RESPECTED
The ongoing conflict in Moyale raises serious concerns about what appears to be a struggle for territorial control, not only of Moyale but potentially of the wider Dawa region of Ethiopia's Somali Regional State.
Ethiopia is a federal republic comprising constitutionally recognised regional states, each with defined administrative jurisdictions. The federal arrangement is founded on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and the constitutional rights of its constituent regions.
No regional administration should seek to extend its territorial control into another through intimidation, military force or unilateral action. Any territorial or administrative disputes (if any) must be resolved through constitutional mechanisms, dialogue and peaceful negotiation.
The pursuit of territorial expansion by the Oromia administration into the Somali Region, with the tacit approval or acquiescence of the federal authorities, is particularly troubling. The attempt to portray the Oromia administration's violence and territorial violations in the Somali Region as the work of unidentified extremist groups, foreign elements and neighbouring countries, without presenting a shred of credible evidence, is unacceptable. Such allegations cannot substitute for a transparent and independent investigation.
The Federal Government of Ethiopia has a constitutional responsibility to safeguard the integrity of its regional states, protect civilian populations and ensure that no region exercises undue dominance over another.
Ethiopia's unity cannot be sustained through regional hegemony, territorial expansion or the domination of one community by another. It must rest on justice, equality, mutual respect and faithful adherence to the federal constitution.
The people of Moyale and the wider Dawa region deserve peace, security and the assurance that their constitutional rights and administrative boundaries will be respected.
The fighting must stop, and that responsibility lies with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Civilian lives must be protected. Constitutional order must prevail.
Peaceful coexistence, not territorial domination, must define Ethiopia's federal future.

Abiy Ahmed must stop Oromo expansionism
I have been a strong supporter of PM Abiy Ahmed & his style of leadership in Addis. His remarkable success in enhancing freedom in the country, liberalise the economy and protecting the territorial integrity of his nation were particluarly astounding. We’ve stood with him as he fought off those who wanted him out.
However, by dint of his failure to rein in his Oromo community from trumpling on the rights of others, he has hugely opened himself up to necessary criticisms.
The current invasion of the Somali region by Oromo forces, and the apparent tacit involvement of Abiy regime's special forces and troops on the Oromo side was unprecedented, and a strategic miscalulation. It has galvanised opposition across the Somali region, and far wide accross Ethiopia. Somalis have been his administration's key supporters, and he needs them more on his side in his current war in the North. And Somali region, neglected for long by his predecessors, requires economic development, not war.
Why would hoisting of a Somali flag and opening of a regional office in the Somali region be a concern for the Oromo? To any discerning observer, Oromo's long-held expansionist agenda now seems to be on steroids, emboldened by PM Abiy's rise to power. Moyale may be a critical border town, but it is in the Somali region. Attempting to ethnically cleanse its Somali population, or forcefully taking it over is irrational. It's the same script that's being attempted on Zeila' and Assab. It will likely be his administration's Waterloo!
Ethiopia needs peace as Africa’s diplomatic hub. Abiy needs to urgently put his thumb on cessation of the agression by his Oromo extremists. In 2019, he won Nobel Peace Prize for ending the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea, facilitating regional diplomacy, and releasing thousands of political prisoners, etc. He should not let his legacy crumble under unnecessary conflicts.

Yes, that missing step of physically unclipping one flag and attaching the other is noticeable. The continuous rope-pulling with an abrupt flag change, plus zero local news or official confirmation of any such incident, keeps the video unconfirmed as real footage. It could be a simple cut edit or synthetic.

It is evident that the Oromo is emulating their former oppressors in adopting the Abyssinian policies of settler colonialism in the Somali region.
I'm afraid that this would be a conflict that neither the Oromos, despite their use of the state nor the Somalis would benefit!
Dear Honorable @FarahMaalimM
I have been concerned by some of your recent media remarks regarding the Gari-Borana conflict in Moyale. I worry that the framing, however well-intentioned, could inadvertently heighten tensions rather than contribute to resolving them.
This is not an ethnic-level Oromo-Somali conflict, but rather a recurring dispute between two clans with close kinship ties, a shared language, and a common territory. Such disputes have persisted intermittently for decades and are sometimes exacerbated by cross-border contraband traders and unscrupulous security operatives. I therefore believe it is important to approach the situation with caution and avoid framing a localized conflict in ways that could turn it into a broader ethnic or national confrontation.
Sadly, this is not the first time you have made inflammatory remarks of this nature. A few years ago, when tensions arose between Somalia and Ethiopia, you delivered an incendiary speech directed at the Oromo, which was followed by reports of harassment and assaults against Oromo refugees in towns across Somalia. Such incidents underscore the potential consequences of rhetoric that risks inflaming ethnic tensions.
Brother Farah, I know you personally, and our relationship goes beyond politics. We have shared both good and difficult times. I have had the pleasure of hosting you in my home in Addis Ababa, and you have graciously welcomed me into yours, where I enjoyed a wonderful meal with your family. You were also among the first people to reach out and offer help when I recently faced a dangerous situation. I recall these moments because I know you as a fundamentally good-hearted and caring person, and I write to you in that same spirit of friendship and mutual respect.
As an elder statesman, you are someone whom I and many other younger politicians have looked to for advice, wisdom, and guidance on important national and regional issues. Precisely because I hold you in such high regard, I hope you will understand my concern. Your words carry weight, and with that comes a responsibility to promote restraint, understanding, and peaceful coexistence, especially when tensions are high.
Brother, I say this with genuine respect and affection. Please continue to be the voice of wisdom and guidance that we have come to expect from you.
Best regards,
Your younger brother,

Inflation is more than an economic indicator; when it becomes severe and persistent, it signals a deepening economic crisis, deteriorating living standards, and failure of governance (state collapse). In developed countries, economic crises prompt urgent consultations, expert advice, and contingency planning. In Africa, however, the situation is different, and political interests are prioritized over the suffering of the citizens. In Ethiopia's context, the tragedy is not only raising cost of living, but the failure of leadership to treat people's suffering as a national emergency.

In 2003, Iraq had Paul Bremer, the U.S.-appointed head of the Coalition Provisional Authority. Following the 2001 U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan, caretaker administration was established under Hamid Karzai.
Both externally imposed, illegitimate administrations led to years of conflict, destruction, mass atrocities, and immense civilian suffering.
Reports by UMD media about four rotating presidents in Tigray under federal oversight for the second time.
Is this a path to peace or a formula for political subordination?
History warns that legitimacy cannot be imposed from above. This illegitimate administration will destroy what remains of Tigray, a region already devastated by the war of 2020–2022.

The US Ambassador to Ethiopia reaffirmed that, the United States has not changed its policy regarding the recognition of Somaliland. He also warned against misinformation, urging the public to verify sources and facts before drawing conclusions from President Trump's remarks. 👇
The Reporter: President Trump recently called Somaliland “a completely different country” from Somalia. Is this a positive signal toward US recognition, or just a remark that does not reflect a policy change?
Ambassador Massinga: There has been no change in United States policy with respect to the question you just offered. Let me add a bit. In general, we see a great deal of misinformation on social media, and in the past weeks we have seen an increase in intentional efforts to mislead and confuse. I consider this to be something quite dangerous and incendiary, and I would urge everyone to double-check and triple-check sources, intentions, and facts before coming to conclusions.
