The President of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal Bogdan Święczkowski has been suspended in his duties along with his Deputy after Judge Korwin-Piotrowska issued a decree in which she described "improper discharge of their duties" and "preventing legally appointed judges", including herself, from "joining the work of the Tribunal".
President Nawrocki has turned back his plane en route to Senegal saying "At a moment like this, the President must be in Poland."
Police have secured the perimeter of the Tribunal headquarters as protests and counter-protests have been taking place throughout the evening.
The status of Judge Korwin-Piotrowska as a member of the Tribunal is itself disputed as political manoeuvrers by the governing PO party and the previous PiS administration have for years controvertialised the institution.
