From Jan 2025 "In his May 08, 2024, testimony to the Canadian Senate on climate-aligned finance, Mark Carney foresaw Canada as a future ‘hub’ for Europe’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The National Post of Jan. 29, 2025, reports that Canadians hope that Carney, if elected, would cancel Canada’s very unpopular carbon tax. This seems unlikely, as a carbon tax paid in a foreign country becomes deductible from the CBAM rate of the imported good or service."

You can see that UAE is in an ideal spot for solar and it is very tiny. Also, due to its location, seasonal swings in solar insolation are small; every where in the north, those swings are catastrophic for supply and for recharging storage. Europe's problem is too many renewables and insufficient dispatchable generation, reliant on neighbours who sometimes don't have spare power to share.
Consider grid scale storage for Alberta:
"At today’s prices (2021), the batteries needed to ensure a reliable supply of electricity from wind and solar generators in Alberta would cost almost two trillion dollars....For the aforementioned Canadian homes, whose consumption works out to be 10 800 kWh per year, the electricity bill would be $51 thousand per year, an amount far beyond the ability of most Albertans to pay."

BTW did Alberta ever save $3 billion a year in health costs as the NDP and Dr. V promised for coal phase-out? We spent about $22 billion in compensation; then the plants had to be changed over...$$ this weakened our energy security in Alberta and drove up power prices, which of course, also drove up costs for hospitals and medical centers.
