Gluten is often reported by patients to cause gastrointestinal symptoms. This newly published study adds to the evidence base for FODMAPs, rather than gluten causing symptoms for those with IBS.

Wheat is complicated! It’s fructan, gluten, & wheat bran components - all possible triggers to GI distress. ATIs found in grains-including wheat- may also play a role. 👇🏼
Symptoms in #IBS are often triggered by #wheat. Is that due to #gluten or #FODMAPs? Or is it related to amylase/trypsine inhibitors (ATIs)?
ATIs are the plant's natural defence against pathogens but can induce immune reactions in humans.

"Food specific IgG is present in nearly all healthy individuals."
IgG is a memory antibody. It is a natural immune response to things we encounter.
IgG tests do NOT diagnose food sensitivity or intolerance. Yet, these $$$ tests are everywhere.

Let's be cautious about equating common things with normal things. Restricting food groups or calories, having rules about food and exercise - these things are common but it doesn't mean it's *normal*.
Diet culture is pervasive and it's dangerous.

When you embrace veganism as an ethical principle, not a diet, you don't have to prove anything about what diet can and can't do for health. It allows for more honest discussion. Veganism & animals (& health) are always better served by a commitment to science. #Veganuary2020

Food IgG tests are rampant...often peddled as a way to find that 'hidden cause' of any myriad of symptoms.
There's one problem: They don't actually do what they're promised to do.
Major professional organizations recommend avoiding them & here's why: aaaai.org/conditions-and-tre…
