Sonny Dykes on the GOP’s defeat: “Listen, I’m shocked. I did not see this one coming. The GOP had a good week of practice, but didn’t see that carry over in the big game”
This is the nail in the coffin.
Rhett is not the man to lead this program into the future.
I appreciate him bringing us back to relevance and getting us to this point, but he has reached his ceiling.
He is just not a serious coach, and has shown he is not willing to adjust or develop to become a serious coach.

One day, Yamir Knight will make a great punt return and it won’t get called back by an SMU penalty.
Today is not that day

I have an opinion.
I don’t want parity with @TCUFootball. I don’t want the Iron Skillet back. I don’t want an apology. I don’t want @CoachSonnyDykes to be fired.
I’m perfectly fine with the way things are. Right. Now.
Ft. Worth after all is just the largest suburb of Dallas.

Watching @TCUFootball and @CoachSonnyDykes implode be like:
If @CoachSonnyDykes gets $7MM/yr to say that @TCUFootball had a good practice. I’ll do it for $6MM.
🚨 EMERGENCY 🐸 FAM MEETING 🚨
Sonny Dykes needs to be fired THIS WEEKEND. Not at the end of the season. Not after another embarrassing loss. NOW.
We are well beyond the point of salvaging this. The program is spiraling, the fan base is checking out, and every additional week of this nonsense is doing more damage.
But let’s not pretend firing Sonny fixes everything.
TCU has a much bigger leadership problem, starting with a Board of Trustees that desperately needs accountability and reform.
Having Victor Boschini back is a massive step in the right direction. But we also have an athletic director in Mike Buddie who has done absolutely nothing to inspire confidence that he’s equipped to navigate the current landscape of college athletics.
And therein lies the dilemma.
We need a new football coach immediately. But do we trust the current AD to hire him? Absolutely not.
Unfortunately, we don’t have the luxury of waiting around to fix every problem at TCU before addressing the most urgent one.
Fire Sonny this weekend. Promote Andy Avalos to interim head coach. Begin the search for a permanent replacement immediately, with Victor Boschini taking a leading role in the process.
Buddie can have a seat at the table for now. But he should NOT be the one driving this decision.
There are much bigger institutional problems at TCU that still need to be addressed, and I suspect Buddie’s future will be part of that conversation sooner rather than later.
But those problems cannot become an excuse for keeping Sonny Dykes employed for another week.
TCU cannot afford to waste another season waiting for its leadership to get its shit together.
The state of TCU football in the 4th quarter of a tight game. #FireSonny
