Maybe we should be pushing for freeholders to pay for works instead of abolishing leasehold?
If my freeholder had paid to replace the windows, repair the brickwork, complete the roof works I wouldn’t have such an issue with paying for a lease extension + marriage value.

At SHAC we always said that in the end it would be rent & service charge strikes that would enable tenants and residents to take power into their own hands.
Whether in protest or because people can't afford hyper-inflated service charges, this is what's now happening.
6 x estate-wide strikes in less than 3 mths. The tactic is spreading, driven by despair & unaffordable housing.

Yesterday @HAWRNet and Find Others met with the National Audit Office to discuss our campaign to #EndServiceChargeAbuse.
We provided compelling evidence to show that millions (if not billions) of pounds of taxpayers' money is being incorrectly diverted into the pockets of housing associations via incorrect service charges.
It is now in the NAO's hands to use their power to launch an investigation.

Managed decline occurs where a political calculation has been made that the residents aren't wealthy/powerful enough to push back.
Many majority leaseholder council, TMO and private blocks are well-maintained on the same or lower income as those below.
It is a choice.
