Benchmark comparison for this week's Verian poll. Subpar for National and Labour, very good for ACT. Technically "bad" for Te Pāti Māori (had to double check that really was 0.1% and not 1%) but largely moot given their reliance on electorate seats.

Lefties should be stoked about that poll, which shows the last two weeks of fulmination about gangs has had no practical impact Everyone has priced it in. The extent of the strategic error was a foregone week of talking about how the economy sucks and a Labour candidate pratfall

The real cost of the Kerrin Leoni shitshow is really only going to come due if she wins, so no need to worry about that yet All still to play for

Only adds to 99.8%, people who only started thinking about maths last week are going to be ropable

Very cool and very normal. Utter failure @ElectoralCommNZ with multiple attempts being made to submit uploaded voting papers only to receive this error. Email assistance replies asking for a submission ID when no such ID is provided. Do you see the problem? #nzpol

Type of guy who pretends he can't tell the difference between people who don't want to vote, and those who want to vote but can't because the govt changed the rules on them
And there were 220,000 unenrolled in 2023, about the same in 2020 and 272,000 did not enrol in 2017. But these numbers pale against the number of enrolled voters who don't bother voting - 2023 - 829,396 enrolled voters didn't vote. 2020 - 655,094 2017 - 692,155 Suppression?

National haven't finished fleecing us yet.
Tens of millions to spend on advertising and the National Party portrays kiwis as sheep that they want to continue to fleece. This is so incompetent that I reckon it is Luxon’s work.

Consolation prize for a guy whose only job is to carry teams, but who couldn't carry his national team

Much past 1993. Mostly similar, but there are edge-case limits present in the current law that take us back about ~80 years.

Odd that the government would abandon all of those positions when asked to account for it in proceedings in the High Court.

If the government wishes to argue that justifies its policy, it will be welcome to try, but it is a little late.

bold play from leoni to promise two more rangitoto but probably a necessary pledge now given her position in the race

All strategic vote-splitting proposals, no matter how perfect they appear on paper, are obliged to contend with the reality that they rely on this type of guy to understand then and give effect to them

Almost the worst part is that the Electoral Commission will not be recording how many voters are turned away on the day because of the government's law change The playing field is tilted AND there is no real audit trail showing the precise extent and partisan impact of the tilt
When Electoral Commission releases figures, Luxon needs to be asked continuously why he took the right to vote away from some Kiwis. He hasn’t given an answer. The most unpopular PM and first term Government in history should not be making changes to lower voter participation.
