POP QUIZ for all Teachers (and retirees)
Your pension law, RCW 41.32.052, says your TRS pension is "exempt from any state, county, municipal or other local tax."
In March, the new income tax bill (ESSB 6346, Sec. 806) added one sentence: that protection "does not exempt any pension or other benefit received under this chapter from tax under Title 82A RCW."
Title 82A is the new income tax.
Odd thing to write into a bill about millionaires. I've met a lot of retired teachers. Not many own yachts.
If it only ever hits $1 million, why did Olympia bother taking the shield off your pension?
YES on 645 To Repeal the Unconstitutional Income Tax.
Nothing says "I'm a thin skinned twat waffle that can dish it out but can't take it" like blocking somebody on X.

🇬🇧 This is proper British (oh hush you progressives)
A 76 year old man is before the courts with a test of equality before the law! … pay attention.
Timothy Miller was arrested for wearing a burka at an anti-migration protest. So he’s turned up to court wearing it AGAIN!
Because Section 157 of the Crime and Policing Act 2026 provides a defence for face coverings worn for religious observance… It doesn’t say ONLY women. It doesn’t say ONLY Muslims.
And the Equality Act protects religion or belief, while Article 9 protects the freedom to CHANGE religion. And clever Mr Miller says he’s “exploring Islam”
So now the court is screwed (not a legal technical term) and must decide whether his actions qualify as ‘religious observance’
Because the law must be applied EQUALLY, regardless of sex, religion or political opinions.
He’s challenging whether equality before the law really means equality for EVERYONE. (I think I love him)
And I think that’s bloody brilliant!.. now we have to see if the law is going to show its cards! … Will it discriminate against this white man? exploring his religion? … of course it will.
And then you will know … that this brave man took one for the team.
Come on Team Britain 💣

To my American friends, part two. Last time I talked about France. This time I want to talk about something bigger than France, bigger than any midterm you've ever voted in: who will control artificial intelligence.
You carry a responsibility no other people on earth carries right now. The most powerful technology in human history is being built in your country, under your laws. Whatever rules you choose will become the rules for the world. If Democrats retake Congress, here is the playbook I see coming, because in Europe we've already watched the first chapters.
It starts with a beautiful promise. Superintelligence will bring abundance. Cures for every disease, free education, the end of scarcity. And it might. But then comes the sentence that always follows: "This is too important to be left to the market."
Then comes regulation. It won't be one law. It will be a thicket of them: licenses to train a model, mandatory audits, compliance offices, approved datasets, safety boards staffed by people who have never shipped anything. Each rule sounds reasonable on its own. Together they build a wall.
Who can climb that wall? Not the kid in a garage in Ohio. Not the two-person startup. Only the giants with armies of lawyers and lobbyists. Some of the biggest AI companies have already gone to Congress asking for a licensing regime. When incumbents beg to be regulated, it's not because they love rules. It's because rules are a moat.
So you end up with two or three approved AI companies sitting next to the government, dressed up as competition. They would share the same values, the same filters, and the same red lines, all decided in the same rooms. Europe just did this with the AI Act. The result is that we barely build anything. We regulate what Americans and Chinese create.
Now think about what that means once AI is everywhere. It will decide what information you see, what loans you get, which jobs you're screened for, and what speech gets flagged. A small class of officials and their partner corporations would hold the master switch on human knowledge. That is a new nomenklatura. The Soviet apparatchiks needed millions of informants to control what people thought. This one would need a few data centers and a compliance policy. Orwell imagined a telescreen in every room. We're building something far more intimate.
This is exactly what your Founding Fathers feared. They had just escaped a distant power that decided everything for them, so they designed a country where power could never concentrate in one place. They split it, checked it, and handed the most important guarantees directly to the people: the right to speak and the right to bear arms. Those rights were never gifts from the state. They were limits on the state. Free speech came back to life the day X stopped being a censorship machine. But a Constitution is only as strong as the citizens who defend it at the ballot box. If AI gets centralized in a handful of approved hands, those rights become words on old paper.
Have you watched Altered Carbon? In that world, the ultra-rich live for centuries by buying new bodies. Everyone else gets one life, rents their existence, and dies. Society hasn't collapsed. It works perfectly for the people at the top. That's the real horror: it's stable. No amount of work, talent or merit can lift someone from the bottom, because the ladder itself is owned. That's what a captured AI economy looks like. It won't be chaos. It will be a permanent ceiling.
America has always been the opposite: the one country on earth where a nobody with a laptop can become somebody. I build my company between Paris and San Francisco. I know which side of the Atlantic still lets you try.
So before you vote, ask every candidate one simple question: will your AI policy let a 19-year-old in a dorm room compete with the giants, or will it protect the giants from that 19-year-old?
Keep AI open. Keep power distributed. Keep the ladder.
Stay American.
I’m French. I want to talk to Americans who are about to vote Democrat. Not to insult you. To warn you.
I come from your future.
In France we did everything your progressive politicians promise. Free healthcare, free college, generous welfare, strong unions, heavy regulation, high taxes on the rich, a state that takes care of everything. Public spending close to 57% of GDP, one of the highest on the planet. On paper, it’s the dream.
Here’s what it looks like from the inside. France hasn’t passed a balanced budget since 1974. Our debt is above 3,300 billion euros. Interest on that debt is becoming one of the biggest items in the national budget. Our hospitals are collapsing despite record funding. Our schools rank lower every year. Young people with degrees can’t afford an apartment in the city they were born in. Our best engineers leave for London, Zurich and San Francisco. And the rich you wanted to tax? They left too, and took the jobs with them.
The promise was protection. The result is stagnation.
The worst part is that nobody in France voted for decline. Every single step sounded generous, compassionate, reasonable. One more program. One more regulation. One more tax to fund it. Each step alone makes sense. Fifty years of them, and you wake up in a country that can no longer build a nuclear plant on time or keep its streets safe.
I love America because it’s the one place on earth where people still believe they can build something from nothing. I came to Silicon Valley as a self-taught kid and it changed my life. That spirit is the most precious thing your country has.
Before you vote, ask yourself one question: is the program you’re voting for making America more like America, or more like France?
Trust me. You don’t want to be France.

🔥🚨DEVELOPING: Steven Crowder just asked Harvard Law Professor Randall Kennedy directly if he would have signed Harvard's DEI pledge to get tenure, during his Change My Mind debate and the professor’s response is making this debate go viral.
I have been saying the same for years. Also expect our utilities, transportation and communication systems to be taken down. And add to that chaos attacks by soldiers who entered the country illegally and were armed here.
When robots learn to check the box that says I am not a robot, the war between humans and robots will be over soon and we will have lost.
Random shower thought. How much money do crematoriums make from the scrap titanium and surgical steel left behind? Those replacement hip joints have to add up over time.
We need to rebrand the effort to remove illegal aliens from the United States. We should refer to it as an effort to decolonize the US. Checkmate progressives.
When you are sitting in the bar and hear a patron and the bartender end a playful interaction on a first name basis you know you are in a dive bar. If they are alcoholics, what am I? Hopefully just a tourist.
Peak Seattle is when the waiter brings you the requested Tapatio and suggests alternate hot sauces because Tapatio was just bought by a private equity firm.
A dive bar is where I go to drink. Karaoke night doesn't make me want to drink more, it makes me want to leave.
