I think this is good comms, very easy to say what you are against rather than what you are for
John Healey promised it would be a "continuity Labour government with a change of leader". His Budget has delivered exactly that.

Andy Burnham is asked about Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields. He says "Use of our resources can support and accelerate a clean energy future" We are truly down the rabbit hole with this utter nonsense. Invest in renewables, insulate homes & say no to fossil fuels.

Honestly not worth complaining about this, the budget will have plenty to get annoyed about. This is something which is in fact better than nothing
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced five "everyday fixes" ahead of the Budget 1. Carer's Allowance will be changed so carers no longer lose their entire benefit when they earn over the limit - instead, their support will reduce by £1 for every extra £1 they earn 2. Import tariffs will be removed on more than 100 products, including baked beans, chocolate and gherkins, to save households up to £21 on their food shop a year 3. Tax-free mileage rates for workers using their own cars will be made permanent at 55p per mile for the first 10,000 miles, with the rate for additional miles rising from 25p to 35p 4. Parental pay will be extended to over 150,000 more parents a year, including self-employed fathers and partners 5. Hundreds more Post Office drop boxes will be rolled out to save people queueing at branches

If Lula was a British politician the labour right would call him anti-semetic, stanchly anti Israel and compared the genocide in Gaza to the holocaust
Delighted to hear @LulaOficial has defeated the far-right in Brazil. A remarkable comeback, and a great outcome for the world!

Here’s what actually happened with the new Goldsmiths campus: - Labour negotiates a deal with a university they know is on the brink of bankruptcy. - They announce this as a done deal BEFORE getting Goldsmiths to sign a lease - giving up the Council’s negotiating leverage to score political points a few months ahead of the local elections. - The new Green administration then has to work to deliver this new campus, in a much weaker position than we would be had Labour not jumped the gun on the announcement. - Predictably, Goldsmiths cancels their expansion plans because they can’t pay for them. - Labour then try to suggest, with zero evidence, that the Green Party are to blame for the deal collapsing. When, in reality, it was their mismanagement that has led to a huge amount of wasted time, money, and effort. We had no intention of politicising this hugely disappointing news for the borough. But if Labour councillors are going to spread this kind of misinformation I feel it’s important for someone to correct the record here.
First Lewisham Shopping Centre, now the Goldsmiths Catford Campus. How much more investment in Lewisham is Mayor Liam Shrivastra going to cost the borough?

Basic education piece: Not all Jewish people are Zionists. Lots of Zionists aren't Jews. The Board of Deputies largely self identity as Zionists. The Media often report the Board of Deputies as the opinion of Jewish people. Yet many Jewish people say #NotInOurName

Absolutely ridiculous decision by Plaid. Under grounding is more expensive, takes longer, is worse for the environment, is much harder to maintain and identify/fix problems and takes up way more agricultural land. Zero good argument for it. Actually infuriates me this nonsense.

Much like the Cass Review, the Bell Review cloaks ready-made conclusions in the guise of pseudo-academic inquiry, only this time the government preempted critique by feeding friendly media agreed lines before anyone could comb through it. The truth is out but the damage is done.
Only 5,000 kids were surveyed, only 92 were Jewish, only 70 of 92 responded, and 29 said they had faced antisemitism at school. Only 2% said antisemitism was a big problem at their school and we're reclassifying it as a more serious form of racism based on that? Is this a joke?

Antisemitism is a real problem. Jewish pupils need protection. The government-commissioned report on antisemitism does not answer this. The abuse of statistics is genuinely shocking. And its promotion of IHRA will silence discussion of Israel's crimes.
The government's antisemitism in schools report is a travesty. It's riddled with errors, distortions and contradictions. And it will be used to silence people over Palestine 👇 zeteo.uk/p/debunked-the-anti…

We are in a climate emergency & yet the government just approved Jackdaw. As Green MPs, we've tabled an Early Day Motion calling on the Government to keep fossil fuels in the ground (including Rosebank) and to focus on things that would actually lower bills & create secure jobs.

The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone. But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100. Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century. New #EmissionsGap Report: unep.org/en/news-and-stories…

Correctly pointed out in the comments, we still have 70% reduced gas storage capacity because of austerity - so not only will we be paying market rate for this gas anyway, we'll be paying the increases as they come for years and years. We need to get off gas as a fuel source.
Sky correspondent: ".. this can be piped in to the domestic network very quickly, & of course this comes this week, natural gas prices have hit their highest level in 4 years, we're on the brink of another increase" Except going ahead with Jackdaw doesn't reduce gas prices.

Sixty years ago, 116 children and 28 adults lost their lives in the Aberfan disaster. Today, we remember those who died, their loved ones, and a community forever changed by this tragedy. The stars in the night sky symbolise those whose memory lives on. Cofiwch Aberfan.

Only last year, Andy Burnham signed the fossil fuel treaty in Manchester along with Massive Attack, saying, "There should be no turning away from net zero, in my view." He’s just another politician who says one thing when it’s politically convenient, then does the opposite.

Over May and June, 2,877 people died in the UK due to extreme heat. Today Labour has approved new gas drilling in the North Sea to please Donald Trump and Shell. Now we know whose side Labour is on.

“Homegrown gas” as if we aren’t going to export it and sell it on the global market 🙄
NEW: Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh has confirmed homegrown gas production at Jackdaw will go ahead. In the middle of an energy crisis, homegrown gas has a role to play in our energy security as we transition to net zero.
