A filter that flew to the moon
Rudolf Kálmán's 1960 filter was met with scepticism, until Stanley Schmidt at NASA Ames saw how to use it for navigation.

Rest in peace, Margaret. Your trailblazing work leading the development of the on-board flight software for the Apollo spacecraft will forever be remembered. 🫡

[🇫🇷 version FR 👇] Day 235, orbit 3653 – After nearly eight months in space, our undocking is scheduled for this afternoon. Our return to Earth will mark the end of the orbital chapter of the #εpsilon mission, but not the end of the adventure! I look forward to continuing to share my experience with you during the post-flight tour.
But first: undocking, splashdown, flying back to Europe and getting adjusted to 1G!
Keep an eye on the @esaspaceflight account for updates about the undocking and splashdown!

Just a friendly reminder that @NASA is building a nuclear-powered drone and sending it to Saturn’s moon Titan to search for the building blocks of life.
Honored to have helped build the laser that will zap Titan samples for analysis by the onboard mass spectrometer (called DraMS).
The actual spacecraft, a rotorcraft the size of a car, is being built by the legendary team at @JHUAPL.
It launches on a Falcon Heavy in July 2028, beginning a billion-mile journey to the outer Solar System.
Mission of a lifetime.

It looks like an astronaut tumbling silently away from the International Space Station—arms outstretched, visor dark, no tether in sight. There is no one inside.
On 3 February 2006 the Expedition 12 crew pushed an obsolete Russian Orlan spacesuit out the airlock. Stuffed with old clothes and fitted with a small radio transmitter, the empty suit became SuitSat-1, a makeshift satellite that circled Earth every 90 minutes until it burned up in the atmosphere weeks later.
