In 2010, I left "Assad's Syria". A few weeks ago I was excited to return to liberated Syria. The food is still great and the Syrian people are as friendly & hospitable as ever. Was sad to see the number of beggars in the streets of Damascus though. It is clear that the country...

The main takeaway maybe from today’s discussions like at Jusoor Thursday: Where is the party law, and where is the election law?
Spent the day at the Arab Institute's (formerly Harmoon Institute) annual conference. Frank discussions today! It was also cool to reconnect with so many Syrian colleagues who, like me, relocated from Istanbul to Damascus. #Syria #ArabInstitute

Turkistarhojen pelkästään 2020-luvulla saamat valtiontuet olisivat kattaneet STT:n tappiot yli 100 vuodeksi. Kumpi on Suomelle tärkeämpää, suomalainen, kansainvälisestikin arvostettu tietotoimisto vai turkiseläinten rääkkäys verorahoin?
Replying to @aleroi
STT palvelee. nitter.gq/aleroi/status/21160474…

Economist (and Nobel laureate) Paul Krugman: “Control of Starlink must, one way or another, be taken away from Elon Musk. It’s a matter of national security: we cannot let private individuals make foreign and defense policy, and it would be totally irresponsible to leave a crucial military asset in the hands of a racist, authoritarian conspiracy theorist.” paulkrugman.substack.com/p/i…

This is very strange. Al Arabiya, like other Saudi state-affiliated media outlets, had been almost uncritically supportive of Sharaa since his arrival in Damascus. Why the sudden change in tone? And why is it happening around the same time that Jordan has decided to strike alleged ISIS cells in Syrian government-held territory? 🤔

Fox: Why are you here this morning? Trump rally attendee: Well, in the late 70s, I was a little too young to go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get, so that's why I'm here. There's nothing like seeing a cult right up front.

Huge news! For 3 years @SohanDsouza & I have investigated a covert paid ad campaign pushing anti-Muslim, anti-migrant & anti-Qatar hate speech across Europe, Lebanon & the US. Today we publish Manufacturing the “Great Replacement”: 533M recorded exposures in 30 countries. 1/25

Had the Washington Post still been what it was a few years ago, we would have had a team dig into who was killed, what affiliation any may have had w/ISIS, and how clear was it that civilian casualties may occur. Now, there is almost no capacity for that type of invaluable work.
#Jordan TV appears to suggest #Jordan's Armed Forces were aware that a woman & several children were at the site of one individual target -- but that the site was hit anyway. *IF* true, it'd suggest a willingness to accept disproportionate collateral damage (like #Israel?).

Breaking. #Daraa countryside, close to the Jordanian border, was targeted by airstrikes. Attacks are believed to be carried out by Jordanian Air Force, which would be a first since Assad's fall.

Seven AfD politicians travelled to Syria in March 2018 during the civil war, with internal emails from the AfD data leak suggesting Hezbollah and Russian intelligence helped arrange their entry, according to Handelsblatt. The emails also reveal internal party disputes over the trip, which included meetings with Syrian regime officials near the besieged rebel enclave of Eastern Ghouta. An AfD security official called the trip “battlefield tourism” and warned the group had placed itself in a form of “captivity” while serving as a PR opportunity for Putin, Assad and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The AfD currently averages 28.3% in German federal polls, ahead of the CDU/CSU at 19.7%, and said it does not support reporting based on illegally obtained data. handelsblatt.com/politik/deu…

What I find insulting is that many of the people running Google claim to be fans of Tolkien. If they were, they would know it’s generally not a smart idea for wizards of tech and industry to attack an ancient forest.

No evidence links the protests to migrants. Yet the right, and not only the hard right, can't resist jumping to conclusions to advance its agenda. Weakening Europe and its democracy is exactly what Trump, Putin and Xi want. Doing their work for them is shameful and irresponsible. Must-read by @jonhenley 👇 theguardian.com/world/2026/o…

2020-luvun "hallitsematon maahanmuutto" yhdessä kuvassa. Tulijoita on ollut noin 100 000, joista rapiat 95 000 ukrainalaisia. Muita joitain satoja vuodessa.
