this is why i love cities. I'm so much less self conscious when i know I'm just one of several hundreds of people a day any given person will catch a peripheral glimpse of
I actually kinda like the soullessness and crowd of cities cuz the suffocation you feel from living a close-knit small community where everyone is forced into proximity against your will is so mentally draining. At least I finally get to be left alone and just exist individually.

wonder how stable a period of full infantilization-by-AI (if even possible) could really be tbh. it begs recollection of the last chapter of “end of history” scenario in which the last man, in his boredom, restarts it
I oppose AI primarily because I believe that people need meaningful, difference-making things to do, not a mere lifetime of recreation. Under ASI, our endless leisure will be passed in diminished, tiresome company, since we will lack the experiences of struggle and striving that generate interesting personalities. What will there be to admire about one another, or even to say to one another? Boredom and purposelessness, even amidst plenty, would be a recipe for great suffering.

Modern life is a form of slow torture for most people. You get painless dentistry, abundant calories, and 500 channels in exchange for this opaque, ceaseless horror.
This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/2026…

Most of tpot used to openly call me a deranged shitposter and block me for opinions like this There’s an overwhelming amount of appeal to authority/capital in tech right now
There’s 100% a kind of mania you can get into with coding agents, where it feels like you’re getting a lot done and working all the time but nothing is really happening. I think it's often a form of avoidance of something else in life.

yes that’s called “hardcore music” and it’s what young men used to do in this country before the CIA built adin ross
Turnstile songs are 3 minutes of the same riff and Brendan Yates saying some shit like “the power of friendship keeps me alive/separate my friend group I’ll probably die”

Is this supposed to be surprising? To me it is basically like this.
Notable @washingtonpost revelation: CIA assessments find Iran has months of food and fuel stockpiled to withstand renewed US attacks. This casts further doubt on the notion that another "short" military campaign could force Iran's surrender or collapse. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

"If you attack landlords, house prices will come down"
The housing market is a whole, if you attack landlords by imposing an additional 4% tax in just one year you impact the entire market, mortgages. developer share values AND the value of people’s homes.

reminds me of this post
one of the most fascinating ideas I've encountered recently is Chiastic Time life isn't a story unfolding from beginning to end, but a pattern unfolding around a sacred center mainly operating through coincidence and synchronicity, events separated by years reveal themselves as parts of a larger mandalic-like pattern

some guy called me stupid and said strong men create good times, and good times create soy men who create bad times. i went to his page and saw he created a sexy french female voice for his chatgpt, which he's apparently fallen in love with and is now flirting with "her."

Roon's job is probably more secure than Sam's, by virtue of being the only hire at either frontier lab to date who doesn't trigger in the modal person a reflex that evolved primarily in the context of running into large spiderwebs in caves.
