It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Such a great tribute to Ditka from @danpompei "No one symbolized toughness better." Well said. Rest in peace to a legend among legends.
What makes a man mythical? How does one become iconic? My tribute to the late Mike Ditka is here. nytimes.com/athletic/2947063…

Be Case Keenum. > Grow up in West Texas. Two-star recruit. One scholarship offer. > Take it. Rewrite the NCAA record book at Houston. > Marry your high school sweetheart, the girl you took out for snow cones before any of this started. > Go undrafted anyway. > Spend your rookie season on the practice squad. > Get cut. Get claimed. Get traded. Start over. > Get your chance in Minnesota when the starter gets hurt. > Throw the Minneapolis Miracle. > Help take the Vikings within one win of the Super Bowl. > Keep moving after that, too. > Eight franchises. Different jerseys. Different playbooks. Another chance to prove you belong. > Through all those moves, keep building a life with the girl. > The girl from the snow-cone date becomes the mother of your two children. > Spend years preparing for opportunities that rarely come. > Go 1,009 days without a start. > Keep showing up. Keep doing the work. Stay ready. > Then, at 38, get the call. Chicago needs you. > Walk onto Monday Night Football. > Throw two touchdowns. Run for another. Beat the Eagles 27–7. > Do it with both your kids watching you play in person for the first time. > Finish the night on SportsCenter with your little girl beside you. All those years. All those moves. All those Sundays waiting for a chance. And when this one finally comes, you fucking crush it with your kids looking on. Imagine what that feels like. There are a lot of ways to teach your children to keep going. Letting them watch you do it has to be one of the best. Absolute legend! 🫡

If all news organizations invited to the press room (right leaning and left leaning) had respect and dignity, they should all boycott all White House events until this is reversed.
The ban is happening. My friends at @MSNOWNews have released a statement saying their journalists have been denied access to WH grounds this morning.

Thank you @TajGibson you played with grit, determination, and heart. Hard hat lunch pale. Always punching the clock. Chicago Bulls Legend.
Today is a very emotional day for me. After 17 seasons in the NBA, I can honestly say I gave this game everything I had. Basketball gave me the opportunity to live a dream. As a kid from Brooklyn, NY, I was lucky to get a chance to display my talent on the biggest stage. From Fort Greene Projects to USC, to the Chicago Bulls , and every team and city that came after, I’m grateful for every moment, every teammate, every coach, and every person who believed in me. I wanted to be the guy my teammates could count on someone who brought toughness, energy, leadership, and heart every time I stepped on the court. To my family, my friends, my teammates, my coaches, my agent, the NBA , NBPA and the fans, thank you. You were all a part of this journey. But this isn’t goodbye to Basketball. It’s the beginning of a new chapter. After 31 years of basketball, I can walk away with no regrets, knowing I left everything on the floor. God has truly blessed me. Thank you Basketball ❤️‍🩹

If you were young in 2001, or weren’t even born yet, it can be hard to imagine what 9/11 felt like. The shock of that beautiful, cloudless morning. The heartbreak of the families whose loved ones were taken with such swiftness and cruelty. The realization that the forces of malevolence and violence were closer, and the future less certain, than we knew. But in the days that followed, we felt something else, too. Pride in the rescue workers who had rushed to the scene, and the passengers who had stormed the cockpit. Admiration for the men and women who left behind lives of comfort to serve their country. A deep resolve that nothing would break the will of a truly United States of America. Today Michelle and I are remembering those we lost that day, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars that followed. We pray for their families. And we hope Americans everywhere remember the true lesson of 9/11: that we can survive even our darkest days as long as we move forward as one nation and one people.

Frank Gehry (1929–2025) Today, the architectural world loses one of its most fearless innovators. Frank Gehry’s work reshaped skylines and redefined how we think about form, movement, and material, long before digital experimentation became part of our daily practice. His buildings weren’t just structures; they were acts of imagination that opened new territories for architects, designers, and artists everywhere. Few figures have shifted the discipline as profoundly or inspired as many to pursue bold, unconventional ideas. Gehry’s legacy reminds us to stay curious, stay rebellious, and keep pushing the boundaries of what architecture can be. Rest in peace to a true legend. #FrankGehry #ArchitectureIcon #ParametricArchitecture

"If we’re convinced that political violence comes from only one side of the divide, then the temptation toward punitive authoritarianism is overwhelming. “They” are evil and violent, and “they” must be crushed. If, however, we accurately understand that America has an immense problem with violent extremism on both sides of the ideological aisle — even if, at any given moment, one side is worse than the other — then the answer lies in reconciliation, not domination. In fact, it’s the will to dominate that magnifies the crisis and radicalizes our opponents." nytimes.com/2025/09/14/opini…

Such respect for @GovCox for the heartfelt, thoughtful plea he just delivered to our frayed American community. We can continue to barrel down this path of increasing violence, or choose a better path and resist the siren song of hate and division.

Super Sky Point to Ryne Sandberg, my favorite second baseman of all time. I will never forget the countless hours tuned into WGN with Harry Caray and Steve Stone during those beautiful childhood summers that lasted forever. Before we knew how fast time actually flies and that our heroes don’t live forever. He could hit, he could field, and he did it all with class. Ernie Banks may be Mr. Cub but Ryno capably took that mantle for my generation. Somewhere in my heart it’ll always be 1984, Harry will always be three sheets to the wind while looking for blondes in the bleachers between pitches, and Ryne Sandberg will always get the clutch hit or make the great defensive play to save the day. That’s how I remember it because that’s how it was. Nobody ever wore Cubbie blue better. St. Peter, don’t throw this man fastballs. But I’m sure Bruce Sutter already told you that. #RIP
