The budget was as close to a pre-election giveaway as it’s possible to do with bugger all money!

As the Chief Whip I can't speak in the Chamber, so thank you to my friend the Minister Sally Jameson MP for raising Lisa's case for me today.
Lisa came to my surgery on Friday. She, like so many of you, has been badly let down by Capita's handling of the Civil Service Pension 🧵

Short of starting his speech by declaring "This is a Budget for a May 2027 election" I'm not sure how clearer John Healey could have been on what the Government's plan is.
Entirely predictable & predicted, this creates an opportunity for @MayorofLondon @willnorman & @TfL
to be stronger about asking #London cyclists of all kinds across the city to respect fellow street-users and obey the rules: standard.co.uk/news/london/o…

Important note on Israeli elections: The votes of serving soldiers will not be counted and published in full until nearer towards the end of the week.
In the 2022 election, approximately 463,000 double envelopes were received, representing nearly 10% of votes cast.

How dare Neal Lawson declare this? Has he dropped a tab of acid?
‘Neal Lawson, founder of the cross-party pressure group Compass, says Labour and the Greens are “connected”’
"Sadly, it’s distracting, and it’s going to distract for a long period of time"
The Greens' Zionism is racism conference motion has left Zack Polanski's party in what insiders call “a very challenging place”
For The House mag, @zoenora6 & @matilda__martin look at the internal division it has created and what different parts of the party believe should happen next
“It has caused a split and a significant rift"

🧵In the Budget one of the govt's risks comes from the 'squeezed middle' who feel they're working hard, but don't get any support. Labour leads with the most comfortable at one end & those who can only just/cant afford costs at other. But Reform still leads with the middle group

Reeves’ two budgets did the heavy-lifting, this is basically a non-event.

I just remembered that a shadow chancellor pulled out Mao’s Little Red Book at the dispatch box, quoted form it approvingly, then tossed it at the Chancellor. Feels like I dreamed it. But that actually happened, right?

PM Andy Burnham will host a rough sleeping summit today with experts from the homelessness sector.
Will they get “everyone in” from the streets by Christmas? Frontline workers tell me they’re really pleased with the sentiment and energy Burnham has put behind it but think it unlikely.
Torrential rain over the weekend is a reminder of how bleak being exposed to the elements on the street can be. But do we have the housing for thousands of people?
