Humbled to have been able to attend the unveiling this morning of a purple plaque rightly honouring Nansi Williams who gave her life whilst shielding five children during the Aberfan Disaster.

On the evening of October 30, 1944, Cologne is attacked by around 1,000 British aircraft, which drop 4,000 explosive bombs and 200,000 incendiary bombs.
Caught off guard by the attack, a wedding party in the Lindenthal district is also surprised. The bride and groom and 100 guests flee into a shelter on the Melaten cemetery. A bomb strikes the air shaft of the room shortly afterward; the shockwave penetrates through the shaft into the interior and shreds the lungs of the occupants. There are no survivors.
Cologne experienced 262 air raids during the war with at least 20,000 dead civilians. The photo was taken in 1945.

71% of Americans oppose data centers, yet politicians are approving them anyway because our government doesn’t work for us. It works for the owners of capital and until the people truly grasp this nothing will change.
You cannot solve a problem unless you can first identify what the problem is, and the problem is the owners of capital have two parties that serve their interests and the people have zero!

Almost 10 years on from Grenfell, it will take another decade to remove unsafe cladding from all homes across the UK.
Until then, communities will continue living with the risk. The government must properly fund fire services to manage that risk and keep people safe.

I cycle through here every weekday, and this is representative. Few cyclists stop on the red light, and this is the same across central London. It happens because there are no repercussions for breaking the rules.

Like the withdrawal of Sally Rooney’s books and the arrest of thousands of peaceful protesters for simply holding signs, this appears to be yet another draconian consequence of the decision to proscribe Palestine Action.
When I voted against that ban, I warned it would take us down a dangerous path that would undermine key democratic rights, including the freedom of expression.
The proscription must be overturned and this clampdown on free speech reversed.
