The Northeast is not where India ends. It is where India begins — and in Guwahati, it is where #VandeMataram at 150 came alive. At #NamamiBharat, hosted by #VidyaBharati, I stood before students, parents, alumni, NCC cadets and citizens not as a former Army Chief, but as an ex-student of Saraswati Shishu Mandir. One "How's the josh?" and the hall answered as one. We remembered #ZubeenGarg, Assam's own voice, who sang Vande Mataram too. We recalled how my jawans from the mountains of J&K loved to sing #BhupenHazarika's "Ganga Behti Ho Kyun". An Assamese song on the lips of soldiers from Kashmir: that is national unity. And when #OperationSindoor came up, the audience didn't just applaud the Army. They owned it. Rightly so, because the whole nation stood as one team. To the young, 5 Ds for life: *Dream — the kind that won't let you sleep. *Discipline — even when the mind says no. *Determination — the first failure is only the first attempt. *Duty — the nation before self. *Desh — whatever you become, make #Bharat stronger. The soldier guards the India of today. The student builds the India of tomorrow. Vande Mataram! #NationBuilding #NortheastIndia

The front line now runs through our labs. At @IITGuwahati, spoke on the Tech Warrior of #FutureWars. Two ideas : Hot Peace; Antifragility over Resilience. Takeaways for young India: • Code is Kavach • Think with AI • Be antifragile • The lab is the frontline • Clarity is power Impressive ideas; the gap is the path from lab to product. Academia, industry, thinkers and policymakers must converge to steer R&D to outcomes. That bridge is the next battle of #AtmanirbharBharat. Compliments on pioneering the Manekshaw Centre for Defence among IITs.

#GenZ asked the hard questions. Here are my answers. A fireside conversation with Ms Kadhambari S Viswanathan at @VITBhopal, in a hall full of India’s future: ▸ Duty, dignity, discipline: the foundation of everything ▸ Staying rational under pressure: lessons from #OperationSindoor ▸ Beating FOMO and cognitive overload: short, mid and long-term goals ▸ IQ is not enough: build EQ, SQ and AQ ▸ AI can inform a decision. A human must own it. ▸ Atmanirbhar tech: SAMBHAV, and academia as a partner And a tribute to those who serve in silence: the military family. Thank you @VIT_univ for hosting. #Inspiration #Motivation #YouthOfIndia

To every young Indian who dreams of the sea: this is where it begins. A memorable day at the Indian Naval Academy, #Ezhimala. Where hills meet the sea, India shapes its naval leaders. I put six questions on #OperationSindoor to the faculty and the passing-out term. The questions a young officer should be able to answer before they command: 1. Who decides, and how? Political aim first. Fifteen days from shock to action, with diplomacy and force moving together. 2. How do three Services act as one? Know each other, share one picture by design. Networks today, unified commands next. 3. Conventional or grey zone? Start from the effect on the citizen, not the instrument. End where the politico-military aim is met. 4. What is escalatory deterrence? Credible capacity, control of every step, and an off-ramp the other side can accept. 5. What sustains a campaign? Precision does not remove logistics; it makes them harder. Stocks, production lines, fused intelligence. 6. Where is victory won? In the minds or physical realms. A war ends when the adversary and the world accept the outcome. Warm thanks to Vice Adm Alok Ananda, the faculty and the trainees. The officers shaped here will command a joint, multi-domain, technology-led Navy. Officer trainees from friendly nations tell me its reputation travels well beyond our shores. I was most impressed by its state-of-the-art infrastructure and outstanding faculty. #IndianNavalAcademy is among the finest academies I have seen anywhere. My message to the next generation of naval officers: think joint, think technology, think strategy. Know the politico-military end-state before the plan. And remember, every officer is a narrator. Discipline on social media is operational security. I am sanguine that you will command the first truly joint, multi-domain Navy. @indiannavy

Thread: Debate on the NE Frontier (Upper Subansiri) misses both geography & cartography The McMahon Line follows the watershed, but tribal ties & religious accommodation in subansiri frontier led to poor & incorrect maps. So, SoI's IB, US LSIB & OSM lines diverge significantly
Update: My take on recent news on PLA setting up camps inside Indian territory! There is a large area of differing perception in the upper sunbansiri frontier. IA's perception of Border, IA LAC, PLA's perception of Border, SOI Border, Tribe's perception of border etc... 1/3

The VIF hosted a delegation from the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) on 14 October 2026. The Director, VIF, Gen. Anil Chauhan, highlighted the changes in the international order and stressed that the world must be prepared to live with disruptions. The discussions highlighted the vulnerability to supply chain disruptions, civilisational engagement, and leaders' interaction at multilateral formats such as BRICS/SCO. Building trust, strengthening people-to-people ties, and adopting a long-term perspective remain essential to stable, mutually beneficial cooperation.

Former Chinese Special Representative for Boundary Negotiations- Dai Bingguo’s(戴秉国) Views on India-China Border Issue and Broader Relationship makes an interesting reading Dai was China's Special Representative between 2003-12. His memoirs named Strategic Dialogues- A Memoir of Dai Bingguo (战略对话-戴秉国回忆录), were published in 2016. Chapter 7 of his book “Dragon and Elephant Dance Together (龙象共舞)", between pages 267-296 deals with India If interested in the subject, may see a summary of this Chapter at the link below newreckk.substack.com/p/form…

India and China have seen multiple crisis for decades however there remains a gap in understanding of how Chinese view crisis. Crisis Management concepts are taught to senior leadership of PLA through Strategic Studies(战略学)..which is also known as Science of Military Strategy To get a better understanding of PLA view of crisis, I would strongly recommend everyone to read this two part summary of Chinese crisis management taken directly from Strategic Studies Part 1 -Theoretical Construct of Crisis as per Science of Military Strategy (战略学), this part covers Introduction to Crisis Management, Understanding of Crisis, Crisis Prevention & Principles of Crisis Management. newreckk.substack.com/p/chin… Part 2- Crisis Handling Procedures and Actual Crisis Handling, as per Science of Military Strategy newreckk.substack.com/p/chin…

If interested in understanding logistical difficulties of Chinese military in Tibet, please read these excellent excerpts of book Sino-Indian War The author who claims to have widely travelled in Tibet, provides excellent details of PLA’s logistical in Tibet. The chapter commences by discussing why PLA withdrew in 1962, a decision primarily justified on logistical grounds. Reading through the chapter makes me wonder that despite having a continuous presence in Tibet for decades why India didn’t know about them well, or why weren’t they factored in while carrying out own planning. There are many other gems in the excerpts such as PLA strength in Tibet, its difficulty in supplying petrol, the exorbitant cost of sustenance and very high tooth to tail ratio. Even though the book was published in 2002 I share these details because I feel many of these logistical difficulties still remain despite development in infrastructure in Tibet. Resultantly, they remain relevant for understanding PLAs strength and weaknesses as a military deployed opposite India. Here we go, newreckk.substack.com/p/logi…

Final Judgement on Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli--Cliques and Factions The Politburo has now approved their expulsion from the Party, and the cases will be transferred to the military procuratorial authorities for prosecution. The announcement also uses some unusually specific political language. A few phrases that stood out to me are “搞团团伙伙,” “对党不忠诚不老实,” and “政治问题和经济问题交织.” With the approval of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, the CMC Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervisory Commission opened disciplinary reviews and investigations into Zhang Youxia, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Liu Zhenli, a member of the Central Military Commission and former chief of staff of the CMC Joint Staff Department. On September 21, a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee reviewed and approved the Central Military Commission’s “Report on the Findings of the Review and Proposed Disposition of the Zhang Youxia Case” and “Report on the Findings of the Review and Proposed Disposition of the Liu Zhenli Case.” The investigation found that Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli had abandoned their original aspirations and mission, become estranged from the Party, lost their sense of Party principle, and crossed political red lines and bottom lines. They seriously violated political discipline and political rules, formed cliques and factions, and were disloyal and dishonest toward the Party. They seriously violated organizational discipline by using the convenience of their positions to assist others in matters including promotions and appointments, and accepted enormous sums of money. They seriously violated integrity discipline by improperly accepting gifts and monetary payments. They seriously violated work discipline by failing to fulfill their political responsibility for exercising full and strict Party self-governance. They also seriously violated discipline governing personal conduct by failing to properly educate and supervise their relatives and staff members around them. Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli seriously violated Party discipline and are suspected of serious duty-related crimes. Political and economic problems were intertwined in their cases, with corrupt enrichment existing alongside dereliction of duty and malfeasance. The amounts of money involved were exceptionally large, the nature of their conduct was extremely serious, and its impact was extremely harmful. In accordance with the Regulations of the Communist Party of China on Disciplinary Actions and other relevant provisions, following deliberation by a standing meeting of the Central Military Commission and review by a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, it was decided to expel Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from the Communist Party of China, terminate their status as delegates to the 20th National Congress of the CPC, and transfer their suspected criminal offenses to the military procuratorial authorities for examination and prosecution in accordance with the law. Their expulsions from the Party will be submitted for ratification at a future plenary session of the CPC Central Committee. The Central Military Commission had previously decided to expel Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from military service. The serious investigation and punishment of Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli fully demonstrates the firm position of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission in carrying the fight against corruption through to the end. It once again demonstrates their unwavering position that there are no restricted areas, no gaps in coverage, and zero tolerance in combating corruption, and that there can be no place in the military for corrupt elements to hide. It represents a major achievement in the Party’s and the military’s fight against corruption and demonstrates their determination and strength. Through the revolutionary tempering of the anti-corruption struggle, the people’s armed forces have become purer and more consolidated, with stronger cohesion and combat effectiveness.

I see @jekavanagh has come in for a lot of criticism for recommending that the US step back from the first island chain. I think a lot of people are being unrealistic in the premises of their criticisms. Think about the Iran conflict and what it has meant for carrier strike group availability in the South China Sea and the inability of the US to defend its bases and allies - against a (mere) medium power. Think about US trans-Pacific logistics issues. And so on. And then think about these points made by Jingling (reddit): "How China Reversed the First-Island-Chain Strategy Naval Supremacy in the Region The People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) has quietly grown into the largest fleet by size, outpacing the U.S. and turning the waters within the first island chain into contested territory. Combined with the militarization of artificial islands in the South China Sea, China now uses these waters to project its own power outward (the very thing the U.S. once sought to prevent). Economic Influence Over Key Players Through trade relationships and economic leverage, China has weakened U.S. influence along the chain. Taiwan, for example, remains economically dependent on China despite geopolitical tensions. Even traditional U.S. allies like the Philippines are rethinking their commitments, wary of being caught between two superpowers. A2/AD Systems: Keeping the U.S. at Bay China’s anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) strategy ensures that U.S. forces can no longer operate freely in the region. With missile systems, advanced submarines, and air defenses, China has raised the stakes, forcing U.S. carriers to operate far from sensitive waters. The Pentagon’s regional supremacy is no longer a given. Maritime Chokepoint Control China’s naval patrols and military exercises like the joint drills around Taiwan on October 14—demonstrate Beijing’s growing ability to dictate maritime movement in the Taiwan Strait and beyond. The U.S.’s ability to disrupt trade flows or deploy forces at will is now severely limited, making the old first-island-chain strategy increasingly irrelevant." Is maintaining the first island chain real or a chimera? I

My deepest respect to Col Anurag and his family. A person who has served the nation deserves the very best care, support and rehabilitation that modern medicine can offer. Locked-in syndrome is one of the most devastating neurological conditions. Col Anurag is conscious and aware, but is unable to speak or move most muscles. I understand why the family is asking: “Is there anything more that can be done?” The honest answer is: There is currently no medicine or injection proven to reverse established locked-in syndrome. But that does NOT mean that nothing can be done. Even after 13 months, I would strongly recommend assessment at a specialised centre with experience in long-term neurorehabilitation and assistive technology. Important interventions include: 1. Detailed reassessment by a multidisciplinary team A neurologist, rehabilitation physician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech/swallow therapist, respiratory therapist, psychologist and specialist nurses should reassess him periodically. It is important to look carefully for even small voluntary movements that may have been missed or may have emerged over time. 2. Intensive, individualized neurorehabilitation Regular physiotherapy should focus on maintaining joint mobility, preventing contractures, improving head/trunk control, sitting tolerance and any residual voluntary movement. Even a small movement of a finger, thumb, head or eye can sometimes become functionally very important. 3. Communication should be a top priority If eye movements are preserved, an eye-gaze or eye tracking communication system can allow the person to communicate independently with family and healthcare professionals, use a computer and potentially access the internet. Simple low-tech communication methods should also be optimized. Restoring a reliable means of communication can dramatically improve autonomy and quality of life. 4. Speech and swallowing rehabilitation Periodic reassessment of swallowing and bulbar function is important. Some patients can recover partial swallowing or other bulbar functions. Speech-language therapy should continue whenever there is potential for improvement. 5. Respiratory rehabilitation Chest physiotherapy, respiratory exercises, secretion management and periodic reassessment of ventilatory requirements are essential. Preventing aspiration and chest infections is extremely important. 6. Mental health and quality of life Never assume that a person with locked-in syndrome does not understand what is happening around them. What about newer technologies? There is exciting ongoing research into: 1. Eye-tracking and advanced communication systems 2. Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) that translate brain signals into computer commands 3. BCI-assisted communication for people with severe paralysis 4. Robotics and functional electrical stimulation 5. Virtual reality and technology-assisted rehabilitation 6. Non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial direct current stimulation, currently being explored as an adjunct to rehabilitation. These technologies are promising, but it is important to be realistic: most are not yet proven treatments capable of reliably reversing locked-in syndrome. ▶️A recent report in 2026 described eye-tracker-assisted communication as part of multidisciplinary rehabilitation in locked-in syndrome, with improvement in communication and psychosocial adaptation. ▶️Research into brain-computer interfaces is also progressing rapidly, particularly to restore communication and interaction for people with severe paralysis. ▶️Importantly, recovery from locked-in syndrome is not always confined to the first few months. While major recovery becomes less likely with time, some patients have shown meaningful improvement over many months and even longer. ▶️The extent of recovery depends greatly on the cause, location and severity of brain injury and whether the syndrome is complete or incomplete. For a man who has served our country, we owe him continued care, respect and access to every evidence-based opportunity for rehabilitation🙏 There may not be a miracle medicine today. But there is still meaningful medicine to be practiced and meaningful hope to be offered. Dr Sudhir Kumar @hyderabaddoctor
Jai Hind Friends 🇮🇳 Sharing for help abt fellow Brother in Arms ❤️ “Some stories should not be scrolled past. This is one of them. Col Anurag Upadhyay scored in the 99th percentile in CAT. He could have chosen a corporate career. He chose the Indian Army instead. He volunteered for the Special Forces, completed probation with 3 PARA (SF), and joined the raising team of 12 PARA (SF). Even after a heart attack in 2008, he returned to active duty. In August 2025, he suffered a severe posterior circulation stroke. Today, he has Locked-in Syndrome. His body has been severely affected. His mind has not. He is conscious and aware. He remembers. He thinks. Through eye movements and alphabet-based scanning, he communicates his thoughts. Further complications resulted in bilateral below-knee amputations. This post is not asking for sympathy. It is asking for possibility. His family knows what the medical literature says. They are not asking for promises. They believe no credible possibility should remain unexplored because the right expert was outside their network. They seek connections to: • Neurologists and neuro-rehabilitation specialists experienced in Locked-in Syndrome • Rehabilitation centres focused on neurological recovery • Researchers exploring recovery of movement, speech or other functions • Research and emerging technologies, including brain-computer interfaces • Eye-tracking and assistive technology that could give Anurag a more independent voice • Veteran organisations or individuals who can open the right doors Someone reading this may know a doctor who has treated a similar patient, a rehabilitation team that has seen a different outcome, a relevant researcher—or someone who can make the right introduction. His prognosis should be determined by medicine and how his body responds—not by a lack of information, access or connections. Please make a connection if you can. DM “Tales Of A Gypsy” on Instagram. If you cannot, share this until it reaches someone who can. No sympathy. Just one question: What more is possible for Col Anurag ? Let us help him find out” lnkd.in/p/d-AS2WgN Prayers 🙌For You- Brother Anurag ❤️
