I used to admire Dan Rather. He was a big fan of Case Closed and we did some great CBS specials around it. That makes this harder to watch. He’s attacking @bariweiss for practicing journalism while admitting he didn’t know her before she got to CBS and still doesn’t. He’s just repeating what holdovers at his old network told him. Dan, she isn’t wrecking CBS or turning it into ‘Fox lite.’ Bari isn’t right or left, the Free Press she founded publishes stories that incense progressives and infuriate MAGA fans. Old fashioned calling balls and strikes. She is the only real hope CBS has of becoming the Tiffany Network again—a title it lost long before she arrived.
Dan Rather wasn’t familiar with Bari Weiss before she took over as editor-in-chief of CBS News. “You judge a person by what they do, and what she’s done is she’s quickly turned CBS News in the direction of being a version of Fox News, perhaps a little more palatable. But I didn’t know her beforehand, and I don’t know her now. Frankly, we didn’t hear much about her until she was rewarded with many millions of dollars for her company [‘The Free Press’], and then paid to come in and start destroying CBS News.” variety.com/2026/tv/news/dan…

On Tuesday's ballot (or really all month because the uniparty broke our elections) we will have two leftwing parties to choose from, neither of which will actually run on their liberal positions. Cheers to those looking to build a choice.

Netanyahu has been PM of Israel for a collective total of almost 20 years. Longer than anyone in Israel’s history, including Ben-Gurion when modern Israel was a de facto one party socialist state for its first thirty years. And when comparing to western democratic leaders, longer than Thatcher, Kohl, Merkel, Mitterand, Chirac, de Gaulle, and Pierre Trudeau held power in their countries. His place in history and legacy are assured regardless of the outcome of the current election, not to mention his thoroughly remaking the Likud in his own image.

NEW: In a new filing, a DHS official under penalty of perjury goes into much more detail about how the Trump admin arrived at its suspected list of 20k non-citizen voters in CA. Some of the steps in order: -DOJ got CA voter rolls with name, address, DOB or age, phone number, voter history, etc. -Feds "enhanced" that data using Lexis Nexis Accurint -Enhanced data is compared to USCIS Alien number -Matches of possible non citizens then screened against SS data to remove people who can be citizens or deceased -USCIS then reviews possible matches of non citizens and assigns a confidence level based on "multifield" evidence -Then, FNDS investigators separately manually review matches to determine which are believed to be aliens

Oh.
Regardless of which war criminal becomes prime minister, Palestinians living under Israeli apartheid will continue to face genocide, land theft, and erasure. We cannot accept lies, excuses, or half-measures from our leaders. We must impose a full arms embargo and sanctions until Palestine is free.

This is just lib ET now. “You do realize even at R+22 Husted is in trouble right?”
Replying to @NE2EarlyVote
You guys do realize that even at r+10 Paxton is still in trouble right? Also trying to read the early voter tea leaves is a fools errand. It’s impossible to predict how people are voting Many many people have been burned before trying this

Yglesias is just correct here. Hasan is quoting a bunch of stats about how elements of the civil rights *protest movement* were unpopular, but the actual law was not.
“The Matthew Yglesias of 1963 would have been telling [JFK and LBJ] don’t touch this civil rights bill. It’s unpopular.” I thought this was one of the more fascinating and important exchanges with @mattyglesias, where I challenged him on how far politicians should defer to polls on huge moral issues, and he pushed back on my analogy. Mehdi conflates bill approval with protest approval. "This civil rights bill" was popular in '63. It had +16 approval (54-38) by Aug. '63 & +30 (61-31) in Jan. '64 before its June passage. Desegregation was generally popular w/ >+30 support for SCOTUS anti-segregation rulings news.gallup.com/poll/3427/most…

“Wedgewood,” this fraudulent pollster who just made stuff and got the NYT to repeat their fake results, has done incalculable damage to the fake polling industry.
Regulate polls, not prediction markets. There’s no evidence that betting harms election integrity, but fake surveys have done so this year, write Harry Crane @HarryDCrane and @KolemanStrumpf on.wsj.com/4i8zIKq

Israel is an independent state that has every right to deny entry to people who turn up at its borders simply to cause trouble. This idea that activists who seek to undermine Israrl have a right to get in is just stupid.
🚨 Israel has detained an SNP MP and a Greens MSP who were trying to enter Palestine

A real humanitarian, that Lula.
When Putin killed Navalny, Lula said: “A citizen died in prison, I don't know if he was ill or had any issues. To make an accusation is to trivialize. I hope that a coroner will provide an explanation for why the individual died, that's all." Third Worldist scum.

Re: "that ad is about Israel, not Jews": If there was an ad hammering on the idea that the reason you can't pay for your groceries is that we're spending too much on aid to Africa, I'm guessing few people left of center would have trouble seeing that as racist

Is it normal democracy to immediately take away the passport of someone and investigate them?
BREAKING: Flávio Bolsonaro has been summoned by the Federal Police to hand over his passport within 24 hours by order of Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The Supreme Court Justice argues that there is a risk that Bolsonaro could flee abroad to avoid prosecution.

The moral case for capitalism is that your life belongs to you. Your work, your savings and your plans don’t become somebody else’s property because they have a moving speech about how they’d use them.
