A huge and largely peaceful protest so far in Paris. People tell me they are there to protest about schools, against the government and Macron, about the cost of living, and for the right to protest itself. Those I spoke to were blasé last week’s violence.

One of the world’s largest private equity firms just issued a report concluding: “Despite massive investments and widespread hype around artificial intelligence, the technology has delivered zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech.”
The rot runs very deep.

We are literally entering a dystopian timeline. 😤
We have all the resources and money to protect the remaining forests worldwide, yet rich companies/people are deciding to finish them all off for DATA CENTRES! 🤦🏻♂️🤬
Google illegally cleared an estimated 250,000 trees across 330 hectares of forest in Muhos, northern Finland, to prepare for a new AI data center before completing mandatory environmental impact assessments
And another 150,000 trees felled at Otanmäki

I had to read two stories this week about the Republican Party or its affiliates hiring hitmen.
One was by @AlJazeera and was a brilliant undercover sting. The other was by @VanityFair and focused on Jared Kushner.
US @GOP politics is beginning to look more like Russian politics.

I am genuinely astonished that, after Donald Trump has spent the past two years stripping Ukraine of virtually all Congressionally-approved aid, threatening Ukraine, fawning over Putin and bending over backwards to please him in every conceivable way, blaming Ukraine for being invaded, hurling vicious, absurd insults, blackmail, and torrents of lies at it, twisting its arm to force it into capitulation, humiliating it with his antics, making it a scapegoat for his own failures and incompetence in the eyes of voters, and now openly and definitively entering into direct collusion with the Kremlin and siding with it in exchange for promised corrupt “business opportunities” for himself, his family, and his inner circle -- there are still people who have the nerve search with a magnifying glass for ways in which Zelensky failed to kiss Trump's ass enthusiastically enough to explain why he has been treating Ukraine this way.

It shouldn't be lost that we are currently living in a timeline wherein Russia has co-opted both the White House and a mad billionaire to shield Russia's war against the western world from US Congressional action.
Lawmakers from both parties in the U.S. House and Senate are pressing the Pentagon to expand its Starshield agreement and restore unrestricted, high-speed satellite connectivity for Ukraine.
They warn that disruptions to the service are jeopardizing critical battlefield communications and undermining Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russian aggression.
Once at a dinner party in Ireland I said that baptism is a way for men to give birth. They break water (the mother is sidelined - that’s important) and the child is born into the life of the church. Womb envy, imho. There’s a lot of it about.
We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence.

The decision to throttle Starshield “appears to have come from a small circle around the president, Musk and Steve Witkoff…Reports suggest Musk wanted to punish Ukraine for striking Russian refineries. One official says he contacted the White House only after imposing the restrictions.”

Concerning to see bishops doing this sort of political stunt. Concerning to see them going rogue around the USCCB and other normal channels for political engagement.

“The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there.” An unbelievable state of affairs.
The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there. The speed has not been restored. And the delivery of interceptors to protect us against Russian ballistic missiles is still delayed. We’re waiting for interceptors that were already agreed on. But they are still not coming. This is a real problem, because the Russians attack us almost every single day.
All of this is happening while we continue our quite successful operations on the front. We keep defending positions. Things have become harder – partly because of the Starlink and Starshield policies and speed limits. But our frontline is still holding and I am proud of how strong our people are.

He’s sorry if you’re offended but it’s actually your fault. Classic.
NEW: Denver Archbishop James Golka distanced himself on Friday from the White House video of him praying over President Trump, saying he had expected a private meeting. He stopped short of apologizing.
He told the Denver Catholic he is “heartbroken that people are hurt,” then accused some Catholics of using the moment to sow disunity.
The division came from the photo op itself, staged in the Oval Office 12 days before an election. None of the other 11 bishops has responded to requests for comment. thelettersfromleo.com/p/arch…

Meta's "accidental" suspension of the No Kings Instagram account — at a time when the org was posting updates from ongoing marches — was not an anomaly. I found dozens of similar instances of Meta "mistakenly" targeting left-leaning activist accounts, often during crucial election windows.
My latest.
