Don’t be fooled by Proposition 40 when you cast your vote today. They call it a “billionaires tax” but it’s actually an everyone tax. The measure gives Sacramento the power to extend it to the rest of us — WITHOUT another vote of the people. Vote no!

Proud to announce and accept the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Taxpayers Association for my Santa Monica City Council candidacy. They're the first countywide taxpayer advocacy group in LA, fighting unnecessary taxes and fees, and demanding accountability for every public dollar. They trust me to do what's right for you. I'll be a watchdog for every one of your tax dollars, cutting non-essential spending and making sure Santa Monica stops adding taxes and fees to families who are already stretched thin. A Higher Standard for Santa Monica. Derrick Townsend for Santa Monica City Council

Whatever happens next week, what I have observed is there has been a revival of conservative activity in Los Angeles in recent years that is laying the groundwork for the future. New organizations like @LATaxpayers, Project LAC, and growing ones like @ICANAction ; GOP Central Committee leaders like @lisacusack_ca flipping local seats and @RickMullen90265 driving 80% Republican turnout precinct by precinct; @LAC_YR leaders like @Assenmacher4CA; The moms in Beverly Hills crushing the door knocking and ballot harvesting game; Loud and unapologetic voices like @CaliMAGABarbie and @ShervinNatan and @Stellaaa and @highlyjewish ; and Phenomenal hard-working candidates we used to only dream of from @SteveHiltonx to @thelastcheli to @ScottAMeyersLA (and many more) as well as electeds like @suzettemartinez supported behind the scenes by teams of volunteers and staff we never get to see or thank for their hard work. It is truly a team effort and I am proud to be a small part of it.

Regardless of your thoughts on Bass, none of that applies to McKinney. There is no reason he should be trailing the female Gascon, other than the mayor’s race is taking up all the oxygen. The consistent and logical position is to vote AGAINST the DSA in BOTH races. Today!!

Being a good Dad, husband, friend, child abuse prosecutor and basic human has ZERO to do with my political party. It has everything to do with the type of person I am and want to be. Child murder cases are NOT political. Murdering a child is wrong and inexcusable. Period. This isn’t TV. It’s real life. Justice isn’t political. It’s just justice. There is no excuse for strangling your own children or any child for that matter to death. The explanation for murder should never erase or justify the murder. You can have compassion for mothers and even fathers for that matter but still demand accountability, responsibility and justice. Children Matter.

I’ve been a prosecutor over 20 yrs. I’ve exclusively handled child murders the past 10 yrs. I became a prosecutor because I was abused as a child and standing up and fighting for children is something I wanted to do in my life & something I believe God wants me to do. It is a hard job. But I’m never going to stop fighting for justice for innocent children. I truly can’t remember a time in my life where I saw a crowd of people cheering on, waving, smiling, and taking selfies and videos of a child murderer. I had someone yesterday respond to one of my tweets by saying they hope Roxanne (my wife and mother of our children) doesn’t get depressed and kill our children - yeah that person was immediately blocked. But, that really, really bothered me. What is going on in our society? You can disagree, even on social media, without being sick and cruel. It’s called being an adult and basic human. Cora, Dawson and Callan were murdered by the person who is supposed to protect them and keep them safe - their mom. The last thing each child saw was their mom killing them. Also, strangulation takes time - it’s not instant. Think about that. Whatever the “why” is, this isn’t something to line up and cheer about. Also, trying to understand “why” this happened isn’t a bad thing. In child murder cases, this is what the jury always wants an answer to - why would a mom or dad or step mom or step dad kill their own child? We rarely get the answer- sadly. Also, most of us, me included, want to do things and implement things so these tragedies don’t happen again. Our ultimate goal should be protecting children and preventing these things from happening, But lining up on a road by the courthouse to cheer on someone who admitted to murdering her three children - I have no words for how utterly sick that is. There are alot of people who really should be ashamed.

Disturbing story in CA Politico this am: strong and credible allegations that leftwing CA Dem state Senate candidate John Erickson set up a phony Instagram account to smear his runoff opponent mod Dem Brian Goldsmith with nasty anti-Semitic slurs. Real gutter stuff. Disqualifying. politi.co/4fY2xrK via @politico

Nithya Raman is getting TORCHED by her own colleagues as she tries to lie about her unmitigated failure as chair of the Homelessness and Housing Committee. “You ran it like a lecture hall at a university, not a place of government”. Nithya is a scammer who ruined our city.
Whoa… In a fiery exchange just now, @MRodCD7 to @nithyavraman: “thank you for your gaslighting revisionist history!” Too bad @LACityCouncil isn’t this vigorous ALL the time. We wouldn’t have failed leadership EVERYWHERE in LA. In context, MRod is 100% correct; @cd4losangeles sat on an issue for HUNDREDS of days.

I'm optimistic about where our town is headed. When neighbors come together to protect our safety, support our small businesses, and keep our parks clean, amazing things happen. We'll make sure our local government works for the people who actually live here. We have the power to build a brighter future for every single neighborhood. Stand with us and vote Phil Brock for City Council BrockTheVote.org #BrockTheVote26 #SantaMonica #PhilBrock #CaliforniaElection
