A closer look at Epitomes' box cutting machine
Paid a visit to Engr. Patrick Ijiti (@pijiti), CEO of Epitome Technologies. After an engaging conversation, I got to see a live demo of their industrial cardboard box cutting machine. They’re doing great work, and it’s really encouraging to see Nigerian engineers push the boundaries of local manufacturing. I look forward to seeing what they build next.

And we need to build a functional steel refining plant fgs
One of Nigeria's biggest manufacturing gaps is that we don't produce enough of the equipment and tooling that our manufacturers need to build their products locally. After extensive research, i found that there is limited evidence of established Nigerian OEMs that produce or-

I have been building things since my days at FUT Owerri, where we launched the university’s first campus FM radio station. In industry, I served as a global lead ASIC design engineer, helping to develop the inertial sensors used in the early versions of the iPhone. I also invented a wafer-level chip-scale packaging technology for inertial sensors. Till today, the US Government has continued to honour royalties for using my PhD research and the patent that came out of it. I am a Nigerian and I build things! Good People, when we engineered a native blockchain for Contisx Securities Exchange, we saw an opportunity to extend that operating system into a new category of secure communication. That vision led us to build the Contisx Phone, a cryptographically secured blockchain phone designed to deliver superior communication security for individuals, companies and governments. Yes, blockchain-secured with absolute sovereignty. With ContiSX Phone, you get end-to-end secure communication, across messaging, voice and video , with no eavesdropping or tampering, guaranteed by cryptographic encryption. The Contisx Phone is now available for preorder, with shipments beginning on October 1, 2026. Preorder yours here: contisx.com/phone/ Every preorder comes with these benefits: - One year of complimentary Contisx Network services, including Contisx Mail, Contisx Audio and Contisx Video. - Zero-rated data access across the Contisx Exchange and CSD ecosystems for one year. Users will incur no telecommunications data charges when accessing core Contisx services. - Free access to the Tekedia Nigeria Capital Market Masterclass. - Free access to the Tekedia Mini-MBA. From semiconductor systems to blockchain infrastructure, we continue to build the technologies of the future. One of the best ways to ensure that more startups emerge and suceed in Nigeria's hardware ecosystem is strategic collaboration. Our hardware ecosystem is small and relatively young when compared to both other parts of Nigeria’s tech industry and other hardware ecosystems.-

If we refuse to invest in factories, mineral processing plants, and production lines over the next decade, someone else will. There is a global shift happening, countries are actively investing in building industrial capacity, particularly in defence, energy, and computing-

Nigeria’s hardware talent pool is growing, and more founders are emerging across the ecosystem Alongside some friends, I intend to set up a small shared robotics/prototyping lab and metal-machining workshop in Lagos, where founders and engineers can access equipment, share-
By 2029, Nigeria could emerge as a critical hardware ecosystem. Yes, over the last few years, I have watched more young Nigerians move into hardware and other domains where atoms, not only bytes, matter. This shift has profound implications because, without hardware, many of software’s promises will remain muted. Software may provide intelligence, but hardware gives that intelligence a physical expression in the world. At Tekedia Capital, we are seeing a growing number of entrepreneurs who aspire to design, manufacture and build tangible products. Perhaps the success of Terra Industries is inspiring more founders to pursue this path. I am an engineer, and this is what my workbench used to look like. I understand the excitement of turning ideas, components and circuits into functional systems. That is why I remain committed to supporting those who want to build. One of our most successful investments in Nigeria remains Egoras, a company that designs and builds physical products and operates its own showrooms. It demonstrates what becomes possible when engineering, manufacturing, software and distribution are brought together. As you plan your hardware venture, consider building within a cluster. Hardware innovation thrives when people with complementary capabilities work together, share infrastructure and exchange knowledge. Unlike many purely digital products, world-class hardware increasingly requires mastery of both physical engineering and software. The age of Nigerian hardware is emerging. It is time to build. And if you have an exciting idea, remember that Tekedia Capital partners with great founders. In the last three months, we have made more than 20 investments, and ready for more. We will like to partner with you.

Its always funny to see people talk like this. It's easy to criticise when you're not the one doing the work. I remember what Ziko faced when he started his jet engine project, everyone and their grandmother had an opinion on what he was doing wrong. But how many helped out?

Bro you are all talks, from jet engine pioneering, you demoted to fucking power packs and now you’re just a Twitter account. Some of us were rooting for you and bro did you fall offfff

Succinctly put. However, apart from investing in practical robotics education, we also need to invest in startups and research labs that are actually building, testing, and deploying robots across various fields. If these institutions don't exist, where will the newly trained-

There are many Nigerian founders building hardware, unfortunately so many of us aren't in the limelight, because bootstrapped hardware isn't glamorous, so it's easy to overlook. Also hardware is expensive, the lack of access to capital for hardware and deeptech startups-
Why aren't more Nigerian tech founders building hardware? We have plenty of software engineers, but hardware still feels like a much smaller conversation. Is it the cost? Infrastructure? Access to manufacturing? Or is there simply less opportunity? Genuinely curious?
