I'd phrase that as: "California subsidized the employment of otherwise useless environmental activists with more than $1/2 Billion of designed and intended red tape"
I just took the bullet train from Hangzhou to Beijing. The Chinese started building the line in 2008, same year as CA project, and finished the 800-mile stretch in 2011. Three years for a distance twice as long as LA to SF!

These are the excuses. The real reasons are:
1- The money was INTENDED to be stolen not spent.
2- The govt's enemy (the people) would benefit from a bullet train. Why would they build something to benefit their enemy?

Look up giant garter snake mating condos (aka berms) for a gas storage facility in Butte County. This is not a joke.

In the central valley it was environmentally required to modify your curb and gutters to help the salamanders not get stuck in the street so they could climb out. This is how retarded things are.
We also had to immediately stop any work for any bird that laid any eggs, including crows, pigeons, etc. Not endangered animals but all.
Go look what it takes to remove a tree in SF, its a multi year process, even if you are replacing with more.
The list goes on....

I was stationed at Vandenberg AFB (nearish to Santa Barbara, CA) in early 2010s. I remember the base commander at the time - Colonel Keith Balts - telling a group of us about the absurdity they had to deal with in order to be allowed to make launches. One example was that the base had to pay for studies observing the effect of launch noise on local sea otters. He shared his real thoughts overall, and I appreciated his candor (paraphrased): "All the environmental studies and regulations are a shakedown racket - just excuses for the State of California to take money from the DoD."

Congratulations! You've discovered the true purpose of the so-called High-Speed Rail Project.
The grift is the point.

Was at a lib-left social thing earlier this week with a bunch of snap-clapper Brooklyn early-thirty-somethings: high school teachers, masters degree havers, not quite professionals. People who want to ‘make the world a little better.’
Very poignant - you can tell that many of them are disappointed, longing, adrift, and pained. Still, they must be ruthlessly crushed, pushed down even further, their last slivers of hope extinguished.

The French national railway company pulled out of bidding for the high-speed rail contract in California in 2011.
They said the state was terrible to work in and they preferred somewhere less dysfunctional.
They went to North Africa.

They don't want anything built or finished or fixed. Much more money in stretching out the process - not in the completion.

This is a great visual of the RIDICULOUS spending on Gavin Newsom’s train to nowhere!
It shows exactly why President Trump and I pulled YOUR federal tax dollars from Gavin’s BOONDOGGLE
Hardworking taxpayers deserve RESULTS. You’re not going to believe this ⬇️

A .50 cal bullet will destroy military equipment yet barely makes a dent in $618 million worth of environmental reports which have stalled progress on California's high-speed train to nowhere.

Milan is quiet today. Damage remains visible on some of the busiest shopping streets, though most affected shops have already been repaired. Just the regular army checkpoints at the Duomo and in surrounding areas.
I spoke with some soldiers, however, and they expect heavy reinforcements over the weekend. Several accounts linked to Antifa networks have announced more demonstrations planned for this Saturday and every weekend after that, in Milan, but also Bologna, Turin, Rome, Florence, Padua, Genoa, and Bari.
The main one seems to be “M1710” (October 17th Movement), which has gained 16.8k (and counting) followers on IG in two days. Yesterday it published a “manifesto” declaring itself an independent movement of disaffected youth inspired by mostly leaderless uprisings over the past fifteen years, from the Arab Spring and Occupy to Hong Kong 2019.
It tries to distance itself from existing far-left groups, deploying generic, anti-establishment rhetoric, yet nearly all of the 57 accounts it follows are openly antifa. Typical of how the far left has operated in Italy since the early 2010s, borrowing the Five Star Movement’s “no leaders, no party” branding to present itself as something new and exciting at every opportunity.
